There are really many terrible things that one can do to their children. But nothing is as terrible as cold-bloodedly murdering your own child – the one you should actually protect and care for.
Yes, Stannis was manipulated by Melisandre and had succumbed to religious fanaticism. Nevertheless, that does not justify burning his own daughter alive on the pyre.
One could argue that Shireen had not had a particularly nice life before this. That her parents practically locked her up, giving her very little love or attention. However, compared to the horrific murder, that is hardly worth mentioning.
The primary blame lies with Stannis, as he was the main decision-maker. His wife Selyse generally had little say. Nevertheless, she did not intervene and simply let him do as he pleased. In the last seconds, she did change her mind. But one cannot call her “rescue attempt” anything more than half-hearted. For this, she earns an honorary place on this list, alongside her husband.
