In Diablo 4, some players are currently dying for no apparent reason, causing great frustration. Apparently, a ring that some builds utilize is responsible for this. Blizzard is working on a solution.
The Wendigo Mal is a unique ring added in Season 12 that makes you stronger the more enemies you defeat. For every 15 kills in the last 50-60 seconds, your damage and maximum life increase.
However, this effect apparently reverses when you receive 50 or more stacks of this effect. The ring then begins to drain your life instead of increasing your maximum life.
In a post on the official forum and in threads on Reddit, players have been discussing this possibility for months, and Blizzard has now gotten involved. According to community manager Marcoose, the team is looking into the issue.

Especially on Reddit, there have been posts circulating for weeks about mysterious deaths, most recently one with the cause of death ” !” (yes, the space is intentional and no, that’s really all there is; see on Reddit).
Others show how they simply die when they change areas or have placeholders in the death description. Whether all these deaths are related to the Wendigo Mal is hard to say, as very few of the top builds in Season 14 even use the ring.
Season 14 has been struggling with several problems since its release, not all of which are due to bugs. The new Mythic system received major criticism because it made it almost impossible for players to get their hands on the best items.
Blizzard is now working on many areas for improvement, including the Mythics.
