In Diablo 4 some players are currently dying for no apparent reason, causing great frustration. Apparently, a ring that some builds use is responsible for this. Blizzard is working on a solution.
The Wendigo Mal is a unique ring added with Season 12 that makes you stronger the more enemies you defeat. For every 15 kills in the last 50-60 seconds, your damage and maximum life increase.
However, this effect apparently reverses when you gain 50 or more stacks of this effect. The ring then starts to drain your life instead of increasing your maximum life.
In a post on the official forum and in threads on Reddit, players have been discussing this possibility for months, and Blizzard has now intervened. According to Community Manager Marcoose, the team is looking into the problem.

In particular, posts about mysterious deaths have been circulating on Reddit for several weeks, the latest of which has a cause of death listed as ” !” (yes, the space is intentional, and no, that is really all it says; see on Reddit).
Others show how they simply die when they change areas or have placeholders in the description of the death. Whether all these deaths are related to the Wendigo Mal is hard to say, as only a few of the top builds in Season 14 even use the ring.
Season 14 has been struggling with some issues since release, of which not all can be attributed to bugs. The new Mythic system received heavy criticism because it has made it so that players can hardly access the best items.
Blizzard is now working on improvements in many areas, including the Mythics.
