In less than 2 months, BlizzCon will take place. Although Blizzard has remained silent so far, we already know quite a bit about what is coming.
For fans of Blizzard games – whether it’s World of Warcraft, Overwatch or Diablo – BlizzCon is a small highlight every year, practically an early Christmas. There are numerous announcements for new game content or entirely new games. BlizzCon 2026 is expected to be particularly interesting for fans of WoW Classic. It is considered almost confirmed that a major announcement is coming.
What do we know so far about BlizzCon 2026? Officially, there are currently very few announcements for BlizzCon 2026, which will take place on September 12 and 13. Of course, there are a few “educated guesses”, realistic assumptions that can be made based on the past years and the state of current games.
There is also a number of leaks that have now been confirmed from different sources and therefore have a correspondingly high credibility.
However, keep in mind that the things mentioned here are still speculations until Blizzard reveals more (or, if we’re realistic: accidentally leaks something again).
World of Warcraft Classic+
The most open secret is the announcement of some form of “Classic+”. A leak already revealed that it will be codenamed “Camelot” and shortly thereafter, this name was indeed registered, and there will be a “Heroic” and an “Epic” edition – data mining has already discovered this.
How exactly a Classic+ might look is still uncertain. The wishes of the community are varied; however, there are some points that seem particularly important to most:
- The Classic flair of the vanilla era must be preserved along with the graphic style.
- The content should take place before the opening of the Dark Portal – that is, still during the “vanilla” time.
- The cornerstones of Classic should not be touched. Everything should remain as time-consuming as before, and invested time must be an important factor.
How exactly this content might look is still unknown. However, there are some ideas that could be built upon. The area “Azshara” could be expanded, and also missing areas, such as over Tirisfal, could hold new adventures. Dungeons and raids must, of course, be included but should be supported by outdoor content like new quest lines or factions.
We also discussed Classic+ together with GameStar and GamePro in the talk:
World of Warcraft: Midnight & The Last Titan
For World of Warcraft Midnight, the next announcement will clearly be the content of patch 12.2 – the final, major content update for Midnight. From leaks, we also know that at the end of Midnight, a massive, transformative event will take place that will probably change WoW as we know it forever. The latest theory suggests a “WoW 2.0” that normalizes the power dynamics and refocuses smaller threats back into the story.
With a bit of luck, we will also get a sneak peek at the upcoming expansion The Last Titan. It will head to Northrend and conclude the story surrounding the Titans.
More Warcraft
The following items have also been mentioned in the leak, but it may still be too early for an announcement:
According to the leak, Blizzard is currently working on several Warcraft games. A “Warcraft Chronicles” might represent the story of Warcraft I up to the current state of World of Warcraft in real-time strategy. From the leak, we know that the game is set to be released in the second half of 2028 – along with a companion anime series.
Another year later, in 2029, an “Arthas Action RPG” is expected to follow – accompanied by a “Live Action” series. There is definitely enough exciting material in Arthas’s development.
Overwatch
With Overwatch, it is already a bit more challenging to guess what Blizzard might announce. There will surely be one or two new heroes appearing over the course of the year – but apart from that, it seems like it will only be small things. After all, the Stadium mode was just recently buried and it may take time before the developers come up with something new.
However, there is a bit of hope. Because there are new hints that Overwatch is working on its own series, which may be airing on Netflix. These rumors have been suggested by interviews and personnel changes. With a bit of luck, there may already be a trailer to see.
Diablo
For Diablo, the information situation is still quite sparse. There have been no reliable leaks so far, just speculations.
A new expansion for Diablo IV is possible; after all, the game continues to perform solidly. Additionally, the community is hungry for new content and especially new classes.
There might also be another spin-off. Because even though Diablo Immortal has quite a poor reputation with core gamers, it is likely that the game is one of Blizzard’s cash cows.
Hearthstone
To be honest: More of the same. New expansions, new cards. The presentations of Hearthstone have been quite monotonous and lacking major surprises in recent years. But that may not be necessary at all, as the model seems to be working.
What else is there?
Blizzard may have a few other novelties to present at BlizzCon 2026. After all, the StarCraft franchise has been dormant for many years and could use a new title, even if it’s just a fleeting mobile game.
So far, however, there is no reliable information on whether Blizzard will resurrect an old franchise like StarCraft or even announce something entirely new. However, according to Jason Schreier, a StarCraft shooter is in the works.
What announcement are you hoping for at BlizzCon 2026? What surprise would make you really excited?
In a few weeks, we’ll take another look at BlizzCon 2026 – because the notorious “leak season” has just begun and is sure to bring some more blunders from Blizzard or internal company documents revealing much more than we should already know. And: One can only hope that the massive layoffs won’t cost us some games.
