The industry expert Jason Schreier has released a new video regarding the large layoff situation at Microsoft or Xbox. His statement: The worst part of the whole thing is that developers, like those at Blizzard, are working on cool projects with an uncertain future.
What are these projects? For some time now, various games have been known or speculated to be coming from Blizzard:
- A new StarCraft game, allegedly a shooter,
- Warcraft games, including an alleged Arthas RPG and something, that sounds like a Classic+ for World of Warcraft,
- and reportedly new projects for Diablo, though it’s unclear whether these are expansions for Diablo 4, already a Diablo 5, or something entirely different.
Jason Schreier, a reporter at Bloomberg and one of the most well-known industry insiders in gaming with a plethora of contacts to developers, has discussed these games in a new video on YouTube from July 10, 2026, and claimed: they are still in development.
Diablo has recently received the expansion Lord of Hatred:
“People are working on it, not knowing if they will have a job in 3 months”
Schreier unfortunately does not specify much about the situation. He merely states that work on the projects is still ongoing, but that the overall situation is not exactly rosy for the developers.
Microsoft recently announced plans to cut thousands of jobs in gaming and intends to scrap projects. For the first time, this is also set to impact Blizzard, though it is still unclear what exactly will happen here. Schreier states:
There are plenty of new products in the works. New stuff in Diablo, […] a StarCraft shooter that is being developed. A lot of cool stuff is happening at Blizzard right now. And now people have to keep working on this stuff, not knowing if they will still have a job in three months. Being in such a position is truly terrible and awful.

Among the affected studios are already well-known names like id Software (DOOM) and Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls). What happens with Blizzard remains open, but MeinMMO demon Cortyn has already expressed a clear opinion: What the layoffs mean for Blizzard: Absolutely nothing good
