When the Straw Hat Crew defeats a strong opponent, there is good reason to celebrate. Even after the victory in Wano Country, the Straw Hats celebrated to their heart’s content. A fan wondered which of the main characters can handle the most alcohol. Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka of One Piece, actually responded to this.
How good is the alcohol tolerance of the Straw Hat Pirates? In the SBS section of the One Piece manga, Oda answers questions from readers. A fan wanted the mangaka to create a ranking of all the Straw Hats and sort them by their alcohol tolerance.
The fan already knew that Zoro and Nami can handle a lot of alcohol. However, Oda revealed that another character actually surpasses the two when it comes to alcohol tolerance. You can see the ranking here:
- Jimbei
- Roronoa Zoro
- Nami
- Franky
- Sanji
- Nico Robin
- Brook
- Usopp
- Monkey D. Luffy
- Tony Tony Chopper
Jimbei ranks first, closely followed by Zoro and Nami. Franky and Sanji are still in a good midfield position. Nico Robin and Brook, who skew the average age higher, land in the lower midfield. The bottom places are occupied by Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper.

What is surprising about the ranking? Many readers likely would have thought that Zoro and Nami would take the top two spots. However, Jimbei can handle even more than the other two. The reason for this might be his massive body, which allows him to absorb much more alcohol before getting drunk.
Another possibility is that he is a fishman. Unfortunately, we do not know how well fishmen generally tolerate alcohol.
Franky is also highly ranked. He likely can mix the cola he needs as fuel with rum and thus drink a fair amount. In contrast, we can guess why Chopper lands in last place: He is still not even of legal age after the time skip. Due to his small size and limited drinking experience, he cannot handle as much as the others.
The author also notes that Luffy would have the potential to drink a lot. However, he would always prefer food over alcohol.
For Oda, it was difficult to create this ranking. Alcohol tolerance has nothing to do with how much the characters enjoy drinking alcohol.
