The map of GTA 6 has leaked and reveals that the fan map is good, but there are greater differences outside of Vice City.
What kind of fan map is this? In 2022, fans launched a mapping project to collect and analyze all known information about GTA 6. Based on this, they started designing a map in an attempt to recreate the game’s map.
The interim result of the project, which involves a variety of engaged fans, can be seen on the project website (stateofleonida.net) and in the following screenshot:
Leak shows: The fans are doing well, but there are also clear differences
What is this leak? On the evening of August 18, 2026, an unknown person shared new leaks about GTA 6 on X, including 2 short videos with gameplay and a screenshot of the map. The gameplay videos show Jason, for example, playing basketball in front of the house or fighting with an NPC after a car accident and then fleeing from the police.
The screenshot of the map reveals the structure of the game area, how large Vice City is, and where there are mountains, lakes, small islands, and other cities. Here, a few differences from the fan project are noticeable.
What differences are there? Firstly, it is noticeable that the areas in the leak are divided into counties. For example, the area south of Vice City near the Everglades (likely “Grassrivers” in GTA 6) is called Mariana County, while the northernmost area is described as Lummox County.
Another difference is in the layout of the map: The leaked map shows much more water, even inland. Northwest of Vice City, there seems to be a type of swamp area that is not the Everglades. There are also more small islands in the west and north of the map.
Moreover, the small towns, some of which we have already seen in official screenshots like Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, appear larger than in the fan project’s interpretation. There are likely more of them as well.
However, the mapping project can definitely be credited for accurately capturing the overall structure of the map, including the positioning of the small towns and the large lake in the north, according to the leak.
The leaker themselves portrays themselves as a hero of gamers, but receives harsh criticism because the leaks also include promotion for their crypto coin while they demand Rockstar Games to offer physical versions and not hide content behind a paywall.
