ARC Raiders reveals how the big update in October aims to bring players back. Four major announcements are in focus.
What is the chance about? ARC Raiders was a huge hit in 2025 with over 465,000 simultaneous players just on Steam and millions of copies sold. However, more and more players turned their backs on the extraction shooter over time, as new updates could not convince in the long term.
In May 2026, the developers made a big announcement: ARC Raiders will no longer receive monthly content updates, but will focus on larger updates that will only appear twice a year. The average number of players has continued to decline in the meantime, finally dropping to just 28,661 last July (via SteamCharts).
The first major update since the transition is called Frozen Trail and is set to release on October 8, 2026. This update is now the last chance to stop the downward trend. The developers have now shared what this update will offer. Four major innovations are in focus.
ARC Raiders’ Content Offensive with 4 Pillars
Here are the 4 major innovations: On August 12, the developers of ARC Raiders shared the first information about the contents of Frozen Trail. Four content themes are particularly prominent:
- A new map
- A frozen settlement on the edge of the Rust Belt with abandoned villages, factories, research facilities, and an observatory.
- New ARC enemies
- Both small, annoying troublemakers and a colossal machine are expected to come
- A huge new ARC operation for experienced players
- The operation will specifically focus on themes like decision-making, dynamic encounters, and teamwork.
- Improvements to the progression system:
- The focus is on the “outpost,” a new base outside of Speranza, which can be decorated and used for research.
- There will also be changes to the skill tree and the Raider decks.
Apart from the four major core themes, the developers are announcing new weapons, gadgets, cosmetics, instruments, and customization options for weapons. There will also be improvements to matchmaking, anti-cheat measures, game stability, and other quality-of-life updates. Overall, the developers remain very vague regarding the information about Frozen Trail. Detailed information is expected to follow in the future.
How is this being discussed in the community? Players in the ARC Raiders subreddit are reacting mostly cautiously, some are cautiously optimistic. Some think the discussed content sounds exciting, but there are also urgent demands for improvements regarding the cheating situation. Cheaters remain a significant problem.
Other players feel that the developers need to improve the existing maps, for example by regularly rotating the red loot zones. Overall, the loot in the game needs to become exciting again. Some are also skeptical about the new operation and hope that they won’t just be sent to collect items.
The outpost, on the other hand, sparks initial interest. One user hopes that ARC Raiders will take inspiration from Warframe and offer players the ability to freely place various objects everywhere.

Since the release of ARC Raiders, many players have been wishing for a proper PvE mode. It is suggested that the extraction shooter might get one, but only in a version that we European players cannot play. More on this here. ARC Raiders is finally bringing PvE like The Division, but not for you
