In 2010, the Holy Britannian Empire began to conquer a large part of the world. Japan was also affected and was quickly taken over. The country is now known as “Area 11.” However, resistance is stirring within the population. In a terrorist attack, the young Lelouch Lamperouge becomes embroiled in an incident that confronts him with a strange bio-weapon – a young woman who enters into a contract with him.
This contract, the Geass, allows Lelouch to issue a command to any person in the world that they must follow. A power he uses to try to unite and coordinate the terrorists behind him, and to overthrow the Britannian Empire.
What makes Code Geass so special? Code Geass is considered a masterpiece even after over 20 years. Despite its age, the series can easily compete with modern mecha anime and surpass most of them. This is not only due to the believable world and the profound characters, but also because of the two sides Lelouch has to navigate. He must play the role of a diligent student at his university while simultaneously organizing a terrorist resistance movement and have to maintain a presence there.
The intellectual, strategic duels that Lelouch repeatedly engages in with his opponents remain memorable – and in the final episode, most viewers will likely catch their breath.
