In the city of Mahobara, time runs slower. The two students Himeko and Chikane could hardly be more different: while Himeko is rather shy and reserved, Chikane is elegant yet bold. They often meet in secret and have long realized that they love each other – something that surely won’t let anything come between them.
But on the birthday of the two young women, a dark voice begins to corrupt one of their friends and ensures that they are attacked. In the process, the power of the Moon and Sun Priestess awakens within them, which will increasingly be needed, for after one calamity, the next is sure to follow.

What makes Kannazuki no Miko so special? Those who dive into the anime are presented with a rather peculiar story, in which despite the mecha theme, a lot of romance is present. It often feels like a pretty wild mix that doesn’t seem to fit together at first glance but still fascinates.
However, one should be aware that this anime also contains some difficult themes, such as sexual assault and deals with coping in a challenging manner.
It is definitely not the best anime – especially not by modern standards – but still a story that showed over 20 years ago how diverse and peculiar the mecha genre can be.
