Maegor was the younger son of Aegon the Conqueror. He is also known as Maegor the Cruel, which already says everything that needs to be known.
Even during the reign of his weak brother, whom we already encountered at number 6 on this list, he sought the Iron Throne. When his brother eventually died, Maegor seized power and thus bypassed his nephew’s official claim, whom he furthermore murdered.
Even during his reign, Maegor was exceedingly brutal and merciless. He ruled with terror and violence, waged a relentless extermination war against the faith, and forced several women into marriage, whose husbands he had previously executed. Another story claims that he had all the builders of the Red Keep murdered after completion. Thus, only he knew the secret passages.
Maegor left behind a shattered realm that could only recover from his reign of terror many years later.
