Aenys was the son of Aegon the Conqueror and followed his father onto the brand new Iron Throne. Unlike Aegon, however, Aenys was not a great warmonger. He was also far from political machinations. Aenys really just wanted to pursue his hobbies. He was interested in art, singing, and acting, much like his mother Rhaenys.
As king, he wanted to please everyone as much as possible. This led to him not making decisions in difficult situations. He hesitated, making conflicts even worse. This led, for example, to the faith rebelling further against him. Eventually, Aenys even fled from King’s Landing and sought refuge with his aunt Visenya on Dragonstone.
However, he did not want to heed her advice to finally respond with fire and blood. Shortly thereafter, he died – possibly poisoned by Visenya herself.
