Rhaenys Velaryon, née Targaryen, should have been queen of Westeros by bloodline. However, as a woman, her claim was overlooked. Therefore, she remains the queen of hearts. However, she was not politically powerless. Later, she married Corlys Velaryon, one of the most powerful men in the realm, which gave her much influence.
Rhaenys was not just a claimant to the throne but also a fearless dragon rider. Her dragon, Meleys, the “Red Queen,” is considered the fastest dragon ever. With this, she could even compete with older and stronger counterparts.
In House of the Dragon, we see how powerful they are in battle. Even against two dragons – one of them the gigantic Vhagar – they perform remarkably. Although they were eventually overwhelmed, they remained a loyal duo until the end.
