Jaehaerys I Targaryen, known as “the Old King”, is best known for his 55-year peace. He is considered by most to be the best king Westeros has ever seen. Under his rule, the realm finally achieved stability and prosperity.
Peace and kindness were not his only qualities. He was the rider of none other than Vermithor, the “Bronze Fury”. This massive dragon is among the largest and most powerful to have ever lived in Westeros. In House of the Dragon, he is claimed by Hugo Hammer.
Together, Jaehaerys and Vermithor fought in several battles – always successfully. However, it was never Jaehaerys’ goal to sow death and destruction. Instead, he adeptly used the power of his dragon to deter enemies. He spent much time on the back of Vermithor, becoming an excellent dragon rider.
