In Elden Ring there are over 160 bosses, most of which are purely optional. To ensure you don’t lose track and are always well prepared, we provide you here with an optimal boss order.

We divide our order into level sections and tell you which regions you should visit in these level ranges. In doing so, we list the main bosses for you and reveal in which order you should defeat them for the best results.

We separate the bosses into opponents necessary for progression and optional bosses that you should defeat for quest progress, good loot, or achievements.

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 1 – 20

In the first 20 levels, you should not engage any major bosses. Instead, focus on leveling yourself and your weapons before venturing into Stormveil Castle.

Therefore, we do not recommend any main bosses here, but rather the following small stepping stones to start:

• Free exploration of Limgrave
• Recommended Dungeon Bosses:
  1. Half-Man Ruler (Coastal Cave)
  2. Stonegrave Troll (Limgrave Tunnel)
  3. Bestial Man of Farum Azula (Grove Cave)
  4. Patches (Blaidd’s Catacombs)
  5. Grave Warden Duelist (Blaidd’s Cave)
  6. Guardian Golem (Highroad Cave)
• Recommended Open-World Boss:
  1. Tibia Mariner

Even though you can see the Tree Sentinel right at the beginning—avoid attacking him before about level 30. The same goes for the dragon Agheel.

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 20 – 40

At level 20, you can start approaching the real bosses. If Margit is still too difficult, it’s worth taking a look at the Weeping Peninsula, far to the south of the map. Also, a quick detour to Caelid for the powerful Moonveil Katana can help.

By now, you should be strong enough and have understood the game mechanics well enough to assess the bosses in dungeons and in the open world. Therefore, from this point on, we only recommend the most important bosses for story progress and loot.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  1. Margit, the Fell Omen (Stormveil Castle)
  2. Godrick, the Grafted (Stormveil Castle)

• Other Important Bosses:
  1. Magma Wyrm (Caelid – Gael Tunnel)
  2. Night’s Cavalry (Weeping Peninsula – Night in Open World)
  3. Lionel’s Beast (Weeping Peninsula – Castle Morne)
  4. Bloodhound Knight Darriwil (Limgrave – Bloodhound’s Death Lock)
  5. Avatar of the Erd Tree (Lower Erd Tree)

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 40 – 60

The next region is Liurnia, the Lake Region with the sub-regions Academy of Raya Lucaria and Caria Manor. We recommend, once again, only the most notable bosses, although you can defeat any other bosses in dungeons and the open world as you wish.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  1. Red Wolf Radagon (Academy of Raya Lucaria)
  2. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon (Academy of Raya Lucaria)

• Other Important Bosses:
  1. Royal Knight Loretta (Caria Manor)
  2. Tree Sentinel (In the Open World of Limgrave)
  3. Avatar of the Erd Tree (Lower Erd Tree)

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 60 – 70

Next, we go to Caelid and the underground areas of the Lands Between with Ainsel and Siofra.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  • Starscourge Radahn (Caelid – Redmane Castle)

• Other Important Bosses:
  1. Ancestral Spirit (Siofra)
  2. Commander O’Neil (Open-World of Caelid)
  3. Nox Swordstress and Nox Priest (Caelid – Sellia, City of Sorcerers)
  4. Stinking Tree Spirit (Caelid – Catacombs of the War Victims)

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 70 – 100

Between levels 70 and 100, the game is at its most open. Here, the Altus Plateau, the Eternal Cities of Nokron and Noxstella, the Rotting Sea, the Depths of Ainsel, Gelmir, and Caria Manor are recommended.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  1. Magma Wyrm Makar (Liurnia – Cliffside Ruins)
  2. Noble of the Godskin (Gelmir – Caria Manor)
  3. Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy (Gelmir – Caria Manor)

• Other Important Bosses:
  1. Imitator Tear (Nokron, the Eternal City)
  2. Royal Ancestral Spirit (Nokron, the Eternal City)
  3. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void (Great Crossroad, after the Rotting Sea)
  4. Ancient Dragon Lansseax (Open World in the Altus Plateau)
  5. Godefroy, the Grafted (Altus Plateau – Deathlock of the Golden Tree)
  6. Elemer of the Briars (Altus Plateau – Shadow Fortress)
  7. Fia’s Champions (Depths of Ainsel)
  8. Lichdragon Fortissax (Depths of Ainsel)

Elden Ring: Boss Order for Level 100 – 120

From level 100 on, you slowly transition into the endgame. You go to the capital Leyndell and its Underground Reservation of Shame. After that, to the Summit of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  1. Dragon Tree Sentinel (Altus Plateau, before the side entrance to the capital)
  2. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
  3. Morgott, King of the Omen (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
  4. Fire Giant (Summit of the Giants)

• Other Important Bosses:
  1. Mohg, the Omen (Underground Reservation of Shame)

Elden Ring: Boss Order from Level 120

From level 120, you are fully in the endgame. Now you fight the last bosses in the game as well as other optional main bosses in places like Mohgwyn Palace, Miquella’s Haligtree, Elphael, Crumbling Farum Azula, and the Ashen Capital.

• Recommended Main Bosses:
  1. Godskin Duo (Crumbling Farum Azula)
  2. Beast Clergyman / Maliketh, the Black Blade (Crumbling Farum Azula)
  3. Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing (Leyndell, Ashen Capital)
  4. Godfrey, First Elden Lord / Hoarah Loux, the Warrior (Leyndell, Ashen Capital)
  5. Radagon of the Golden Order / Elden Beast (Leyndell, Ashen Capital)
