Fans of survival games have a bountiful table ahead this year. Many games have already been released that enrich the genre, and three more are on the way, which we already know have a lot to offer.
Currently, you have more good survival games to choose from than in a long time. As of now, in June 2026, at least three new titles have been released that have made a significant impact or are hidden gems waiting to be discovered:
- Windrose impresses with an excellent pirate setting and “simplified” survival features, making the game much more accessible. The developers are still working on content during early access, but even in early access, it applies that: no pirate game has fascinated me like Windrose for a long time.
- In Soulmask, you collect villagers like Pokémon and build your own colony. The game was released in April as version 1.0 after several years of development.
- With Witchspire, another survival game has entered early access and deceitfully disguises itself as a simple cozy game in a witch style, but is actually much tougher.
Additionally, with Subnautica 2, the most wanted game on Steam has been released, at least in early access. Over 3.5 million players have wished for this underwater survival game. MeinMMO even spoke exclusively with the developers about the fascination with the depths of the ocean.
However, if there is still nothing for you among this selection, you can look forward to more releases in the coming weeks and months that have already proven themselves in early access.
3 survival games celebrate their release, already a hit in early access
Valheim was the surprise hit of 2021 and was so successful that even the developers at the time were not quite sure what was happening. However, they have significantly developed the game since then, including:
- new biomes like the Ashlands, the Foglands, and the upcoming Deep North
- improved combat and survival mechanics
- more building options, farming, and NPCs
Valheim has been polished so much, that fans have long thought the game was finished. However, the official 1.0 release is now scheduled for September 9, 2026. The game will be released on Steam, for PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2.
Palworld has essentially repeated Valheim’s success in 2024. The quirky game in comic style, however, relies more on a… creative method of obtaining labor in the form of Pokémon-like monsters. With weapons.
With the 1.0 release, which is already scheduled for July 10 on Steam, PS5, and Xbox, new pals will enter the game and so many changes, that the developers recommend starting anew and not continuing the old save file.
- Here we have all the info about the 1.0 release of Palworld summarized for you.
Nearly simultaneously with Palworld, the “underdog” Enshrouded was released, a survival crafting game from Germany. Enshrouded focuses more on exploration and puzzles in the style of The Legend of Zelda with mystical enemies and an RPG-like skill system.
Since its early access release at the beginning of 2024, the game has already received eight major content updates, including one that introduced water with liquid physics(!) into the game. The content already provides plenty for well over 50 hours of gameplay, with full release still scheduled for 2026 on Steam, as well as for PS5 and Xbox, but without a specific date yet.
A “small” update turns a known quantity into a new game
As a bonus, I want to mention Conan Exiles here. Although it is already several years old and Funcom is currently working hard on Dune: Awakening, with the Enhanced update, Conan Exiles has once again become significantly better, even if smaller.
Literally: the game now takes up less than half the storage space on the hard drive. Conan Exiles: Enhanced has essentially “only” upgraded the survival game to a new Unreal Engine with prettier graphics, better performance, and a few quality improvements.
The updates, along with years of polishing, have ensured that Conan Exiles feels like a new game that has been well polished. The update was even released for free for all owners, even though it is essentially a complete remaster.
I myself have sometimes played until 6 in the morning and invested dozens of hours into the game, even though I already knew everything. I did not expect that I would enjoy it so much.
Which new survival game did you find the best so far and which are you looking forward to the most? Feel free to leave a comment!
As a fan of survival games, I have not experienced such an exciting year as 2026 in a long time, and the highlights are still to come – my personal favorite will be Enshrouded, which I am very much looking forward to and with whose developers we often stay in touch. Maybe I’ll also get some colleagues to join, even if that only half worked for Conan Exiles: Boomers meet Gen Z in Conan Exiles, the gaming experience couldn’t be more different
