The next major patch for World of Warcraft is imminent. But there are a few things you should take care of before it’s too late.
Next Wednesday, Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek in World of Warcraft will be launched. It is the first “major” content patch of the current expansion, bringing a new season, a new area, and a plethora of fresh content. However, before it begins, you should complete and consider a number of things – otherwise, you might find yourself in trouble on Wednesday having to deal with things you don’t want to.
Therefore, we have here 4 things you should quickly take care of before the patch goes live.
1. Fully unlock the Omnium Folio
As part of the Midnight campaign, Magister Rommath and Magister Umbric have stumbled upon the Omnium Folio. This means not only interesting story content about the blood elves but also enhancements for your character. It is an additional mini-talent tree that significantly boosts your performance, allowing you to deal more damage or contribute more healing.
Important: The Omnium Folio is not just a temporary bonus that disappears with Patch 12.1, but upgrades that last for the entire duration of Midnight. For most content, the unlocking of the Omnium Folio should soon be regarded as “standard” when wanting to join groups.
The individual quests of the Omnium Folio each take only a few minutes. On an afternoon, you can easily unlock the entire folio if you haven’t started yet.
2. Upgrade gear to the maximum
The vast majority of players have likely optimized their gear in Season 1 already. But perhaps you have secondary characters sitting on a lot of currencies that you haven’t spent yet.
Then you should do that as quickly as possible. Because with the release of Patch 12.1, all your currencies will disappear. In addition, the item level of your gear from Season 1 will be locked, meaning further upgrades won’t be possible.
If you want to start the new patch fully prepared, invest a few minutes now to upgrade items. This should significantly enhance your character’s performance during the first week of the patch.
In the long run, this effect is naturally negligible. Within the first few weeks, most players will completely swap their gear – at least for active characters that regularly visit dungeons or raids, this should be the case.
3. Claim rewards from the Decoration Duels
The Decoration Duels from Silvermoon are disappearing. This PvP mode, designed to be fun in the best “Prop Hunt” style, was only a temporary feature and will conclude this Wednesday as well.
Even though the game mode didn’t offer rewards that raised your character’s power level in any way, there were still plenty of housing items that must not be missing from any collection. Additionally, there is a toy and a mount.
The items will still be available in Patch 12.1, but no longer through the Decoration Duels, rather through various vendors. From now on, you will need the resource Voidlight Mergel – which you also require for many other items.
You likely won’t find rewards from the Decoration Duels as cheap as they are now. So make use of the last few days to expand your collection.
4. Start Ula’tek’s campaign
Even though the new content of Patch 12.1 starts on Wednesday, the campaign’s launch is already playable now. You can already experience parts of the background story of how Ula’tek awakens.
The quest line begins with a summons from the Haranir, who reveal the common history of the elves and trolls. Only then does the story turn to Zul’jan, who is searching for a weapon so that the Amani no longer have to depend on the Loa, who, from Zul’jan’s perspective, have let them down before.
Although the quest line can be completed in about one to two hours, it ultimately involves a visit to a dungeon. This could be an annoying “obstacle” if you want to start in the new patch on Wednesday but still have to play “old” content while the rest is already frolicking on the new island.
