Blizzard seems to be heading towards a new golden age. There is praise, as it is the best studio under the auspices of Xbox.
A few weeks ago, there was a rumbling through the gaming landscape when it was said from Xbox that several thousand employees would be laid off. One of the biggest casualties was probably Zenimax Online Studios, which had to abandon its plans for The Elder Scrolls Online. Blizzard fans also expressed great concern that cuts would be made among the developers and that some unannounced games might never see the light of day.
Now there is reassurance, as an internal email reveals: Blizzard is currently the top-performing studio that Xbox has.

Where does the information come from? The information comes from an internal email sent by Johanna Faries, the President of Blizzard, to the team. The email was supposed to remain internal but was leaked to Windows Central magazine, which quoted it in an article.

What was in the email? Faries is full of praise for Blizzard, as it seems that they have reached a very special state. The email states:
In [Fiscal Year 26], Blizzard is the top-performing studio in the Xbox Studios, and this year has the third-highest gross profit of all time for Blizzard.
According to Faries, this success will also help facilitate more investments in the future to pursue more games, more employees, and further initiatives to “shape the future of Blizzard.”
Which games are particularly relevant for this? The greatest impact on Blizzard’s triumph in 2026 is likely to come from Diablo IV with the new expansion “Lord of Hatred” and Overwatch. Even though Overwatch has been mocked and ridiculed by many for dropping the “2” from its name, the hero shooter seems to be in a very strong position and had its strongest quarter in over 4 years.

Expectations for BlizzCon are rising: Faries also mentions BlizzCon 2026, which will be held in a few weeks: “It is my hope that [BlizzCon] can shine a light on all the work that is currently underway at Blizzard and that it serves as a powerful springboard into a new era of momentum and excitement for our mission to bring joy and togetherness to communities worldwide.”
