Jason and the Argonauts

We conclude this list with another milestone of the genre. Jason and the Argonauts takes a mythological setting from our world but is more fantasy than a “faithful” adaptation of real materials.
Jason, the nephew of King Pelias, sets out to find the Golden Fleece. This is supposed to ensure that he becomes the ruler of the city of Iolkos. Jason’s followers, called Argonauts, must prepare for a rough adventure full of dangers.
They encounter fantastic creatures such as a Hydra, skeleton warriors, or harpies. A particular highlight of the film is the effects developed by stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen. Thus, the film seems a bit dated in the age of CGI but has retained its charm and is still worth watching today.
