Vhagar is the only dragon that has ever come close to Balerion in size. Originally, she was one of the three dragons of Aegon’s Conquest. She was ridden by Queen Visenya, Aegon’s older sister. She lived longer than all others of her kind and grew more powerful with each decade.
After Visenya’s death, no Targaryen dared to claim Vhagar for a long time. Eventually, Baelon Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s grandfather, managed to do so, who fought with Vhagar among others in the Fourth Dornish War. In House of the Dragon, the dragon then goes to Laena Velaryon and later to Aemond Targaryen.
At this point, the dragon lady is nearly 180 years old and the last dragon from the Age of Conquest. She is so big that many younger dragons appear to be mere hatchlings next to her. Her wings can overshadow entire regions and her weight alone makes her a flying natural disaster.
