The Cannibal is one of the most fearsome creatures in all of lore, even though we unfortunately never get to see him. He is one of three wild dragons on Dragonstone, being the largest and oldest. His name is quite literal. He was famous for regularly eating other dragons, including mainly corpses, freshly hatched babies, and dragon eggs.
According to legend, the Cannibal dwelled before the arrival of the Targaryens on Dragonstone, nearly 100 years before Aegon’s Conquest. That would make him even older than Balerion. While the Maesters doubt this, it is undoubtedly a very old creature.
Many brave individuals have tried to tame the wild dragon – but without success. It is said that his lair is littered with their bones. When Jacerys and Rhaenyra are searching for new dragon riders, none of the candidates are foolish enough to try with the Cannibal. His reputation has preceded him.
The Cannibal is not a siege machine, not a disciplined tool of the Targaryens. He is a dangerous beast that can hardly be surpassed in brutality and wildness.
