Jaehaerys I was undoubtedly the best king Westeros has ever seen. He ruled Westeros for 55 years, making him the king with the longest reign. For over half a century, he brought peace and prosperity, which no king before or after him was able to surpass.
As the successor to King Maegor, a notoriously cruel ruler, Jaehaerys was initially confronted with a fractured realm. However, through skilled diplomacy and wise decisions, he not only compensated for his predecessor’s mistakes but made the kingdom even stronger than it was before.
Even though his grandfather Aegon I led the conquest of Westeros, it was ultimately Jaehaerys under whom the Seven Kingdoms truly merged into a political entity. He ended the age of the Faith Militant, created the King’s Road, and unified laws. He ruled in close partnership with Queen Alysanne, who often traveled the land on her dragon to resolve local disputes, forge alliances, and build rapport with her people.
