Aegon III started under the worst possible circumstances of his reign. In the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war we also see in House of the Dragon, almost his entire family died. As the oldest surviving son of Rhaenyra and Daemon, he eventually ascended to the throne and had to put an end to the chaos of the bloody war.
Despite the difficult conditions, Aegon III somehow managed to establish peace and stability in the realm. His greatest goal was always to help the people achieve prosperity and satisfaction. However, he was not particularly popular. This was mainly due to his cold and sad demeanor. The traumas of his past had left a deep mark on him and haunted him for the rest of his life. Moreover, during his reign, the last dragon died. This earned him the nickname “Dragon’s Death.”
Even though Aegon III was not the most popular king, it was never really his fault. He fulfilled his duties extraordinarily well and ensured that the Targaryens would sit on the Iron Throne for many more generations.
