Aegon V was the fourth son of a fourth son. He was so far down the line of succession that a coronation seemed almost impossible. Through a series of unforeseen events, it eventually happened: Aegon V became king.
Due to these special circumstances, Aegon was unlike most kings before him. He had not grown up knowing that he would inherit much power later. Instead, he spent large parts of his childhood wandering Westeros as a common squire. To remain unrecognized, he shaved his head and used the nickname Egg. The adventures of him and his knight Duncan can be seen in the spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Because of his past, Aegon V was later a very approachable and kind king. Throughout his entire reign, he fought for reforms to protect the common people from the caprice and exploitation of the nobility. This naturally earned him many enemies, whom he found difficult to oppose.
In a desperate attempt to gain military strength, he wanted to hatch dragon eggs. However, a tragedy occurred. A massive fire broke out, claiming the lives of the king, his heir, and many others. Despite all the difficulties, Egg was probably the king with the biggest heart, who put the welfare of the realm above all else.
