The 15th season of Diablo 4 holds many surprises. Some items leave the community puzzled, while veterans mainly smile, even if they themselves are not sure yet.
What kind of items are these? Players currently find strange items in season 15 of Diablo that raise questions. These include the Chat Gem, Black Mushroom, and Liquid Rainbow. All three items seem to have no clear function. Some, especially newer players of the Diablo series, are wondering what it all means.
Veterans of the early hours recognize these items right away. Season 15 is intended as a tribute as part of the 30th anniversary, bringing back several iconic locations, characters, and of course, items. While the Chat Gem is now known to many and has been a running gag since Diablo 2, the mushroom and the rainbow were important materials in Diablo 3 for the Staff of Herding, which was needed for a secret level called Whimsyshire.
If you are a fan of the predecessors, these items should be very familiar to you, and their function – or non-function, as in the case of the Chat Gem – is theoretically known. However, only theoretically, as it seems that things work a bit differently in Diablo 4.
Cryptic Numbers, Portals, and Missing Items
What functions do the items serve in Diablo 4? That is still not quite clear. Although the community has already figured out some things, they are still not 100% sure what it all means. So far, they have discovered the following:
- Chat Gem
- Can be socketed like any regular gem
- Then shows various notifications
- “Chat Gem Activated”
- “Chat Gem Deactivated”
- “Perfect Gem Activated”
- “Mooooooo”
- If socketed, the gem “chats” with you about all infernal topics, but only in a monologue
- You cannot reply
- Sometimes the gem spits out cryptic number sequences in the chat
- The currently most unclear part of the gem
- Players observe that the numbers keep getting smaller and do not repeat
- No one knows yet what happens when it eventually goes to 0
- Black Mushroom and Liquid Rainbow
- There is a strong suspicion that the Staff of Herding can also be reconstructed here
- However, so far hardly any other materials related to this have been found
- Players have not yet discovered any function of the items
Whether these items are just nostalgic relics or ultimately lead to a hidden secret remains to be seen. In any case, Blizzard explicitly mentioned in the official announcement that “forgotten secrets could be hidden in the memories.”
