The player He Box Jonge has set a crazy world record in Old School RuneScape (Steam, Android, iOS). While other players attempt speedruns for individual content, he has leveled a complete account to max level as quickly as possible. He beat his originally set goal by 200 hours and narrowly defeated another speedrunner.
What kind of record is this? In July 2022, the player started his journey to the “Max Cape”. This is a reward for players who have reached the maximum level of 99 in all 23 skills. These skills include Attack, Hitpoints, and Magic, but also Cooking, Woodcutting, and Fishing.
In his announcement video, He Box Jonge explained that he had two goals for the challenge:
- He wanted to be faster than the player JCW, who had also recently started this challenge.
- He wanted to stay under 1,000 game hours, which many considered very ambitious. After all, there were only 32,929 players who had maximized all skills (as of March 1, 2023). Many of them took thousands of hours to do so.
He documented his journey to the “Max Cape” on Twitch and in a small video series on YouTube. The last video was released on March 27. There he showcased his success. He reached max level in all skills in 32 days, 3 hours, and 3 minutes and clearly fell short of his set goal with 771 game hours.
Spent too much time fishing
How did the other player perform? There was a close neck-and-neck race between He Box Jonge and JCW for much of the time, as reported by Reddit user Drogon. In the Slayer achievement, which recently set another record, they were said to have been nearly equally fast.
JCW was even faster than He Box Jonge in Runecrafting. He set a temporary world record of 6 hours to level 99 in this skill, which has since been broken.
However, JCW had to concede at Fishing. He lost over 7 hours to his opponent because he underestimated the net fishing in the low-level area.
In the end, JCW even managed to reach max level in all skills almost simultaneously, but needed 792 hours for it.
What happens next? Both players have become friends through the challenge and want to set more records in the future. He Box Jonge wants to focus on the Ultimate Ironman. There are special rules:
- You only have one life – upon death you are downgraded to “Standard Ironman”
- You cannot trade with other players
- You cannot use a bank
- You do not gain XP or loot through PvP
- You cannot use certain quests, rewards, and minigames
