Almost all spots of the survival show 7 vs. Wild are now filled. The show organizer Fritz Meinecke has now called the next two streamers Trymacs and Rumathra after Papaplatte and Reeze, who are known for their streams on Twitch, to ask if they want to participate in the show.
How did the two react? Trymacs, whose real name is Maximilian Stemmler, was called during a live stream and could hardly believe his luck. He screamed to everyone on the bus he was in and loudly confirmed his participation.
Since in the third season, pairs compete against each other, Fritz Meinecke explained that Trymacs’ team will be joined by the Twitch streamer Rumathra. Trymacs immediately ran to his friend and advised him to gain 15 kilograms before the show, which he had lost for a boxing match.

Why are only streamers nominated as substitutes? Fritz Meinecke defends his nominations by stating that while the Twitch streamers may not have any knowledge of survival elements, they bring the mindset, motivation, and discipline for such a format. The streamers are a funny addition to the survival professionals.
In Pokémon GO, changes regarding the popular raids have been made repeatedly over the past few months, much to the dismay of trainers in rural areas. Our MeinMMO author Franzi is also very annoyed by this and explains why.
What changes are we talking about? After Pokémon GO introduced various bonuses during the Corona pandemic that made playing from home easier, these have been systematically rolled back in recent months.
In April, the popular remote raid passes fell victim to Niantic’s correction pencil. With these special passes, trainers were previously able to participate in raids in other parts of the world by receiving invites.
Instead, the developers are now focusing more on local raids, such as the current Crypto Raids with Mewtwo. And this decision has negative consequences for many trainers, including myself. I will explain what these are and why this situation annoys me here.
4 negative consequences of the raid changes that really annoy me
The recent raid changes have caused a large wave of protests under the #HearUsNiantic in the Pokémon GO community. Trainers have signed the related petition in droves and an open letter to the developers followed. Nevertheless, there was nothing to be done about the decision, and Niantic is now increasingly focusing on playing on site.
However, especially for trainers in rural areas, this has resulted in a number of restrictions. I also live in a small town in the countryside. And although we can’t really complain about the number of PokéStops and gyms here, the effects of the raid changes are now noticeable in our area.
1. Lack of participation via remote raids
That many players are unhappy with the changes to remote raids is evident not only from the wave of protests on social media. I am already feeling the first effects while completing raids. In recent years, a kind of global community has formed through remote raids.
I have made global contacts with other Pokémon GO trainers with whom I have participated in raids together. If I wanted to play a raid on site, it was almost routine to invite these people. And I could be sure that some of them would be there.
Conversely, I have also received numerous invitations to raids abroad and reciprocated accordingly.
Since the changes, however, there has been a noticeable decline in participation. Even though I still invite my trainer friends, significantly fewer of them participate in the raids now. And I am also pulling back on my participation in remote raids – they are just too expensive for me. And this is especially annoying when you really want a certain raid boss.
While I occasionally participated in less interesting raids last year just to help another trainer finally get this monster as a shiny, I now think very carefully about which raids I invest my passes in. And my friends feel the same way.
2. Lack of active local community
In addition to the issue with the lack of participation through remote raids, there is also a recurring lack of an active local community, especially here in the rural area. Thus, players who do not have such a high trainer level often miss out on harder raids. And I also have to repeatedly find that in a majority of raids on site, there are only two or three of us.
Since my husband and I already have a higher trainer level and also have the corresponding monsters, this is generally a minor problem for us in most raids because we usually manage the battles, just a bit slower.
However, in harder raids, we also lack support on site, which sometimes leads to the raid simply not happening or having to hope for help via remote raid. This is very annoying if, for example, you are aiming for a specific shiny.
Other trainers who are not as far along in level, in my view, thus become extremely dependent on the few local players in order to secure certain raid bosses.
3. Trips to other cities
Since there are no longer enough active players in the local community to support raids, many have no choice but to travel to other places. Especially for top raids and the new Crypto Raids, there is hardly any other choice if you want to secure the monsters.
To bring trainers back together locally, Niantic has designed these raids in such a way that one can only participate on site. Additionally, they are sometimes so hard that you cannot necessarily complete them in a small group of 2 to 3 players.
This weekend, I will also travel to other cities specifically to get Crypto Mewtwo, hoping to get a strong or shiny specimen. After all, Mewtwo is among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
However, this is only worth it if you can complete several such raids on site or can at least combine the game with other errands.

4. Local arrangements
Another problem that Niantic has intensified with the raid changes, in my opinion, is communication. Even if there is now a standalone app called Campfire through which you can chat with other trainers or indicate that you want to do a certain raid, it is still not used particularly well by the community, in my experience.
This makes it especially difficult for trainers who, due to a lack of a local community, sometimes have to play in other cities. Often, they are not well connected with other trainers there, which is why I believe there is a need for a corresponding interface.
Especially, I find the short-term organization of raids to be difficult.
With the exception of top raids, most other raids are announced at least 60 minutes in advance. Those who are not well connected, have a long travel distance, or even need to use public transport may encounter timing issues. Ultimately, this can lead to not being able to do the raid because it is simply not possible to organize it in time, which can be very frustrating.
Do I still enjoy playing? Yes, even though the raid changes have undoubtedly had significant impacts on Pokémon GO and have made playing especially difficult for trainers in rural areas, I remain active daily. However, I am now participating in fewer raids overall because I miss the local community and remote raids are too expensive for me in comparison.
Better incentives: I believe it is fundamentally a good idea for Niantic to try to bring local communities together more strongly again. In particular, the introduction of new raid formats, like the Crypto Raids, is a successful change and motivates players to play.
However, I am missing the right incentives to attract more active players locally again. Instead of worsening remote raids, I would have preferred better rewards for trainers who go outside and play on site.
Even though playing together on site worked great before the pandemic, the community has changed over the years. Remote raids have given us new opportunities that many players can no longer imagine being without.
Especially for trainers who do not have a local community or who are not mobile due to health reasons, these remain important. To ensure that these players are not excluded from the game, remote raids should continue to be an important part of Pokémon GO, as they have been in recent years.

The community manager Irina Moritz was able to play the second demo of Final Fantasy XVI, which focused on the story and game world of the RPG. Many of her concerns were alleviated or even eliminated.
I have to be honest: Although I am a long-time FF fan, I initially approached FFXVI with some skepticism. The team behind the game is solid, the gameplay material looked good, and at first glance, there was nothing to complain about.
But you know how it is: You don’t want to get your hopes up too much, as it could ultimately be disappointing. That’s why I remained cautious despite all my optimism towards FFXVI.
This was also because the focus during the presentation was long on the combat system. It was prominently featured in trailers, and the first demo was 100% a combat demo. At some point, it became a bit too much for me.
I have nothing against the combat system itself, unlike the fans of turn-based combat. However, I eventually asked myself, “Where are the RPG elements in your RPG?” What about quests and crafting? What do the areas look like? And most importantly for me: What will the story of the game be like?
As a long-time Final Fantasy enthusiast, the story is crucial for whether I like the games or not. The success of FFXVI hinges on it, and the developers are very aware of this. With the second demo, they answered precisely these questions.

When you don’t want to put down the controller
The setting of the second demo was a flashback from the protagonist Clive’s past. As the firstborn son of the Duke of Rosaria, he was supposed to inherit the power of the Phoenix but did not. Instead, his younger brother Joshua inherited the ability to transform into the firebird. Clive, on the other hand, is now being trained as his protector.
In the flashback, you follow the events that triggered the main story of FFXVI. The demo showed how Clive became a mercenary and was separated from his loved ones. And the story really made me eager for more.
As a youth, Clive was taught sword fighting so that he could later serve as a shield to his brother Joshua.
I was so immersed in the story that I actually lost track of time. The plot is directly engaging from the start and features several plot twists. It mainly revolves around the “Dominants”, people like Joshua, who hold the power of summons within them.
These characters are introduced right from the start, and it is dramatically demonstrated what kind of destruction they are capable of in their Eikon form. They can wipe out entire armies single-handedly, leading to some bloody scenes in FFXVI.
Overall, the game does not shy away from adult content such as violence and even sex. In our interview, the devs told us that the development team didn’t want to force a dark tone on FFXVI. Rather, it is the result of wanting to depict reality.
Even in the first trailers for FFXVI, violence and brutality were evident. Especially the young Joshua takes quite the beating.
In a war, terrible things happen, and you see them live and in color while playing FFXVI. One of my quiet fears was that the devs were just inserting blood and murder to appear “dark”.
However, the story segments in the demo definitely did not come across that way. The brutal scenes had their justification and did not feel like they were just thrown in for shock value.
In the end, I absolutely wanted to know what happens next and even considered whether I could bribe the dear employees of Square Enix to let me play a little longer. Or alternatively, how many of them it would take to tear me away from the controller. But I digress.
I must honestly tell you: I can no longer stand huge open-world games. After a flood of such games in recent years, I have become saturated. Accordingly, I was damn happy to hear that FFXVI will not have an open world.
According to director Yoshida, the world should be structured similarly to the new God of War: Ragnarök. There will be a hub from which new areas are unlocked and explored. Part of this could also be seen in the second demo.
This was a welcome change from the tight and linear fortress that you fought through in the first demo. You were able to visit a nice open area, slay monsters, collect resources, and complete a quest that couldn’t have been more boring.

Final Fantasy XVI: Story trailer promises a new mega-RPG for fans
However, I still enjoyed traversing the area and kept thinking to myself while exploring, “Thank goodness this is not an open world.” It was almost refreshing not to be overwhelmed by tons of icons on the map in a big game. However, some concerns remain:
The side quest presented in the demo was “Run from A to B”. Even though such quests have their place, I still strongly hope that FFXVI has more to offer. Depth and ongoing quest lines like in Ghost of Tsushima would be great.
Side content has generally not been particularly highlighted so far. In interviews, director Yoshida mentioned hunting rare monsters (like in FFXII), but that sounded a bit shallow.
The interesting discoveries on open maps were rather limited in the demo. There were some ruins and treasure chests here and there, but they didn’t reveal anything terribly interesting. Hopefully, this will change in the finished game.
The battles of the Eikons are still a concern for me. Even during the fight between Phoenix and Ifrit, it was hard to see what was going on. It was chaotic, very dark, and poorly visible. Very unfortunate because Eikon battles are meant to provide a spectacular feeling – if you can see something.

But where would we be if I didn’t mention the MMORPG FFXIV in an article about Final Fantasy XVI? It is no secret that both FFXIV and FFXVI are developed by the Creative Business Division III. In the first demo of FF16, which was presented in February, I was able to discover countless parallels between the two games.
This caused both excitement and some concern for me. If the teams were to adopt the positive aspects of FFXIV, such as the spectacular Eikon battles, what about the negatives?
Even though the story of FFXIV is often praised, it is not without weaknesses and problems. The creative director for the story of FFXVI, Kazutoyo Maehiro, was already responsible for the Heavensward expansion. My concern was that the development team might carry these problems into the new game as well. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the second demo addressed exactly this.
One of the major criticisms of FFXIV is that it starts very slowly. The storyline at the beginning is generic, not particularly engaging, and takes time to gain momentum. This is definitely not the case in FFXVI. It didn’t take 20 minutes before I thought, “Okay, this is really exciting.”
The central characters are introduced elegantly, making me immediately ponder their backgrounds and motivations. I just wanted to know more about them.
Subtle plot points are scattered everywhere from the start, hinting that there is more than meets the eye, which piqued my curiosity.
Despite the quick start, the initial situation of the game is clearly explained. You learn who the characters are, how they relate to one another, and what the backgrounds are that led to the current situation you are in. It didn’t feel like a lesson or a lore dump that overwhelms you at the start.
In short: you don’t have to wait endlessly for it to get exciting. I know it sounds trivial, but that is the experience you have in FFXIV. The peaks of the story are absolutely fantastic, but during the quieter parts, especially at the beginning, it can drag on like an old rubber band.
After the first demo, I was cautiously optimistic, but after the second, my expectations were raised even further. I now expect a top-notch and very emotional story from FFXVI with many intrigues that is compactly packaged and has no fillers.
So, FFXVI team, please impress me. I know you can do it.

A bug and a new mode: Especially solo players have rarely been able to shine in Trials. Bungie has now confirmed that there was indeed a problem with the lobby balancer that led solo players with high skills to often feel that matches were geared against them.
A solution has now been implemented for Season 21 that overrides the skills of all in the challenger pool with the same value, making lobby balancing effectively random for those aiming for Flawlessness.
Since this abolishes player search based on game passes, you also won’t need to reset your card if you want to help a friend reach the lighthouse after you’ve already been there. The number of victories on the card no longer affects the difficulty of the matches.
