What is A Silent Voice about? As a student, young Shouya combats his boredom in the cruelest way: he bullies his deaf classmate Shoko with his friends until she transfers schools. Years later, Shouya himself has become a victim of bullying. Only then does he regret his past actions and has even started to learn sign language.

When he meets Shoko again many years later, he attempts to make amends for his past mistakes – but do people just change like that? And is he really doing it to make Shoko feel better? Or is he just doing it to ease his own guilty conscience?
