The classic shamans from WoW are primarily defined by their totems. These provide such strong buffs that you want shamans in almost every group. But what else can they do?
- Possible Races: Orcs, Tauren, Trolls, Skyborn (Horde only), Dwarves
- Possible Roles: Melee, Ranged with a focus on Lightning spells, Healer, (maybe in a niche: Tank)
Official Description: Shamans are in direct contact with the elements. They are characterized by wisdom and perseverance, making them ideal as community advisors and leaders. In combat, shamans manipulate the elements through totems and spells. They are capable of unleashing immense amounts of rage and power in other fighters. Shamans exemplify the original bond between the mortal races and their environment.
What are the strengths? The two DPS specializations of the shaman are defined mainly by their enormous burst potential, with which they can take down enemies in PvP in a few moments or deal competitive damage in short PvE fights. Just when several crits pop up almost simultaneously, the class is more fun than any other.
The shaman is also considered a very efficient tank healer, capable of using chain heals to heal high group damage – if the injured are close together. Additionally, there is an enormously flexible arsenal of totems and cleansing options as well as exclusive tools like Reincarnation or Ghost Wolf. Every group would love to have a shaman by their side.
What are the weaknesses? For competitive damage in PvE, Elemental and Enhancement have so far lacked the staying power within the classic context. Whether the Forever improvements will make offensive shamans more competitive remains to be seen. In the worst case, they will again be reduced to their totems and pushed into the role of healer. For totems and spells like Chain Heal, positioning of the teammates is crucial.
The shaman is ideal for: Anyone who wants to support their group in the best possible way or who wants to occasionally take down opponents with massive crits. The shaman is also the perfect class for more experienced players who want to maximize their potential from a wide range of tools and skills.
