The times when Paladins had to be healers automatically in the Classic context are over. The holy tin can has received two additional, competitive talent trees for Forever.
- Possible Races: Undead, Humans, Dwarves
- Possible Roles: Tank, Melee, Healer
Official Description: Paladins fight to protect the world from the forces of darkness. They are not only strong warriors but can also call upon the light to heal wounds, create shields of strength, and burn evil creatures.
What are the strengths? Retribution and Protection are finally viable options for Paladins that find meaningful use beyond just a niche. Protection Paladins are likely to be the best tanks in the game when it comes to tanking multiple enemies at once.
At the same time, the Holy Paladin has lost little of its former strength. Sure, maybe they have to watch their mana from time to time now. Nevertheless, they remain the most efficient single-target healer in Azeroth. In addition, the general advantages of the class apply: Paladins bring a colorful package of tools to any group and raid, and they are very resilient.
What are the weaknesses? The Retribution Paladin is very equipment-dependent, but even with the best gear in the game, they are unlikely to find themselves at the top of the DPS list (maybe when it comes to Undead or Demons). This could make it difficult for them to find groups despite all the improvements in the PvE endgame.
Protection and Retribution are also still very reliant on mana, which can present challenges in some situations.
The Paladin is ideal for: Anyone who wants to charge into battle in heavy plate armor but does not want to commit to the role of melee brawler. Paladins can tank, heal, and deal damage. This makes them the second-best hybrids in the game after Druids. Plus, they lure you in with a free mount!
