Actually, as of March 4, 2025, free transfers from the old 32-bit servers to the new 64-bit servers of Lord of the Rings Online were supposed to be possible. However, the large influx of players disrupted the developers’ plans.
Update from March 7, 2025: The trouble regarding transfers to the new 64-bit servers does not cease. According to a post by the developer Severlin on the official Discord channel, the situation currently looks like this: After ongoing issues, the transfer service could not be brought back online as planned last night.
Instead, it should be possible to move characters to the new worlds during Friday. Also on Friday, the 64-bit servers are expected to go live, allowing players to start playing immediately after a successful transfer.
In some cases, it may happen that your character has a “Cool Kinship-01” suffix. This is a problem that the developers will need to work on in the long term.
How did the transfer phase go? The second phase of the rollout of new 64-bit servers for Lord of the Rings Online was supposed to start on March 4, 2025, at 6 PM. All players should then be able to move from 32-bit to 64-bit worlds with their characters for free. The new worlds themselves were supposed to remain closed.
However, the plan did not work out. First, there was a short delay because the legacy servers were offline, preventing a transfer. When the transfer window opened, so many players tried to register for the character move that the system crashed within a very short time.

How did the developers respond? The HdRO team initially responded by pausing access to the transfer assistant to allow the system time to process all current transfer requests. Later, they reopened the assistant for new transfer requests.
Since the influx was significantly higher than the developers had anticipated beforehand, they extended the transfer window for the free switch to a new 64-bit server until March 6, 2025.
What is the current status? A look at the official forum on lotro.com shows that there are still many problems. Various players report, for instance, that their characters are still on the old servers despite transfer confirmation. Others are still waiting for their transfer to be processed or for them to be able to initiate the transfer. How is it going for you?
