The tarrasque is an ancient monstrosity and a living disaster that levels entire nations. It originates from the earliest epochs of the Material Plane, where it once served as a weapon of immortal powers. After long periods of slumber, it awakens at irregular intervals to bring destruction upon the world.
Over 20 meters tall, covered in armor of horns and spikes, the tarrasque defies nearly every attack and can even reflect magic. Its relentless fury is directed against everything it encounters – it lashes out with claws and tail and devours smaller creatures with a single bite. Especially buildings, monuments, and other large structures seem to provoke its wrath.
What ultimately sends it back to slumber remains a mystery. Yet even if it is stopped, it cannot be permanently destroyed – somewhere a new tarrasque always awakens. Its destructive path leaves traces that feed legends even after centuries.
Although a tarrasque also has the classical maximum value of 30 and modifiers of +10 on skill and saving throws in the strength attribute, it offers a CR of 30, the highest value for a challenge.
This has cost many adventurer groups their last nerve and requires substantial preparation to ultimately defeat it. This rightfully places it as our number 1 among the truly strongest opponents in the multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons.
