For the third anniversary of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian published new statistics from players about what they have been up to in the game. Among them is a piece of information that proves: Players are more heartless than expected.
What kind of wicked act have players committed? In the birthday statistics of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian showed the top 6 NPCs who have died the most. Among these is the tiefling bard Alfira, who met her end a total of 2.62 million times.
This might be because Alfira has drawn the short straw, experiencing a scripted death when players chose the path of the “Dark Urge” (referred to by fans as “Durge”).
At least one could suspect that… However, Larian’s statistics state, as they express it on X: “More players who did not play the Dark Urge managed to kill Alfira than Dark Urge players. Maybe it’s time to stop pointing fingers at others.”
Because even more players committed this act, although it wasn’t even necessary.
The death of the innocent bard hurts… or at least it should
What do the statistics show? From the posted statistics, it can be seen that only 48% of the murders of Alfira came from Durge players, so less than half. A full 52% of players chose of their own free will to kill the bard, which makes me think: … Do you have no heart?
Why is this finding so surprising? In addition to Alfira, the other murders and NPC deaths can be explained by rewards in the form of bonuses (like with Isobel), funny, more accidental moments (like with Barcus Wroot), or simply because some NPCs really challenged players with their character (cough Wulbren Bongle cough).
But killing Alfira is really mean. Apart from a nice cutscene with a song sung and the willingness to accompany the group, Alfira really did nothing to invite someone to… “get rid of” her.
The only valid reason I accept: Minthara has wrapped you around her finger so much that you just couldn’t help but smash all tieflings in the druid grove to be able to cuddle with her at night. I accept it, but with a shake of the head.
