We now know that Rockstar has changed a controller input in GTA 6, which has MeinMMO editor Caro breathing a sigh of relief: Finally!
Which input is being referred to? Thanks to Italian gaming YouTuber and content creator MikeShowSha, we now know that Rockstar has changed a small detail that will make future escaping in GTA 6 much easier for me: Instead of having to quickly tap X, simply holding down the L3 button will make Lucia or Jason sprint.
In GTA 5, you could run a bit faster by holding down the X button, and by tapping quickly, as in a Quicktime Event or a Mortal Kombat “Test Your Might”, eventually sprint.Â
In GTA 6, however, our thumb will be a bit more spared in the future. Instead, you just have to press the button you already use for running. Whether it needs to be held down or if a single press is enough before stopping is something we do not know yet.
Rockstar breaks their own tradition and I am so grateful for it
Not only in GTA 5 but also in Red Dead Redemption 2, you had to strain your thumb joint if you wanted to run in the games. This used to annoy me terribly while playing, as I found it not only exhausting but I was also bothered by the constant sound of the tapping button (you can tell, I only play with a controller).Â
It was also just a huge adjustment when playing other games alongside GTA where you simply had to hold down or toggle a button. This tapping… I just wasn’t a fan.
Rockstar’s change sounds like a dream to me and my poor little fingers.
Not everyone sees it the way I do
On social media, this small but still relevant change sparked a lot of discussions. Quickly, two sides formed who either celebrate the new L3 controller input just like I do or do not consider it the right decision.
Counterarguments mainly consist of the fact that tapping is a Rockstar tradition that would be lost, but also the concern about potential wear and stick drift that constant pressing of the L3 button could lead to. I have to say, that is a valid concern because a new controller is also not cheap.
The best solution that I and many people would propose, or at least wish for: Let the players decide.Â
It would be best, especially on a topic that provokes such different opinions and is easily solved by an input option, to provide the option to assign the sprint button yourself. This way, everyone would be happy, and players could decide whether they want to let their controllers suffer or their fingers.
What do you think of the change to the sprint button? Are you as relieved as I am, or do you find it less helpful? Let us know in the comments! I am also excited about something else in GTA 6 that I already wished for before seeing the new gameplay on Netflix: GTA 6 doesn’t just gift you a relationship, but makes you work for it – and rightly so
