Soulframe is currently in the alpha phase, but receives a new update every month with useful features. The current update Preludes 15: Gods and Ghosts makes the title feel even more like an MMO.
What exciting new features are there? The new update includes additional social and multiplayer features. A trading system and in-game mail have finally been introduced. Players can now trade crafted weapons, armor, runes, totems, and resources with each other.
Speaking of totems and runes: The old totem system has been completely overhauled. They are now tied to the three virtues instead of generic attack and defense slots. This allows them to provide targeted buffs and bonuses for resting abilities, enabling more strategic builds.
A particular highlight is also the rework of the loot and crafting system, as defeated enemies and chests can now drop fully crafted weapons instead of just materials as before.
In addition, there are other little things like a new island or new weapons. But the points mentioned above clearly represent the highlights. You can find the full content on the official page of Soulframe.
Soulframe feels more like a rewarding MMO
What is special about this innovation? With the update, Soulframe clearly feels like a real MMORPG. Previously, the gameplay was very isolated, but with the trading system and the mail function, the interaction between players is now significantly at the forefront.
Moreover, the gameplay experience is shifting from a pure material grind to a more exciting loot feeling. It now feels more rewarding to defeat enemies and then receive a special weapon. Each weapon also brings its own stats, making it even more exciting to collect the perfect stat values.
However, there is also criticism. Especially founder players who have purchased weapons in the shop beforehand to avoid the grind feel cheated (read more in the official Soulframe forum). After all, some of their purchases are now devalued, as any weapon can now be received as loot with random stats.
Are you currently playing Soulframe and have early access? What are your impressions of the alpha version and which MMO features should definitely not be missing?
Last year, it looked different. At that time, Soulframe did not feel like an MMORPG at all. MyMMO editor and MMORPG expert Karsten told you in an article about what bothered him back then: I played Soulframe for almost 25 hours and can tell you: This is not an MMO
