Who is speaking? New information has been disclosed by Alanah Pearce, a former scriptwriter at Santa Monica Studio and co-writer of “God of War: Laufey”. According to her, Sony has implemented the strictest communication guidelines regarding social media for its employees ever seen at PlayStation. She explained this (via pushsquare.com):

Sony regularly instructs its employees on what they can and cannot say on certain topics. When I was working on “God of War: Laufey,” I had numerous guidelines – that is still the case today. And on the day of the game’s announcement, I actually received guidelines on what I was allowed to say.
But in this case, the restrictions are apparently the strictest that the employees I spoke to have ever experienced regarding public statements. They would only have done this if they knew that there would be a huge PR problem. For them, it is no surprise.
She herself stated that such guidelines are not unusual and that there are similar ones for important games, as Pearce explained. This time the situation seems to be quite different. At Sony/PlayStation they apparently assumed that the end of the disc would trigger a shitstorm. And that is exactly what ended up happening.
Console gamers are currently considering switching from PS5 to PC. This is mainly due to uncertainty about the future. Especially Sony’s decision to abolish the disc unsettles many people. Even potential exclusive titles no longer seem to attract as before: More and more players are considering switching from PS5 to PC before it’s too late
