Everything You Need to Know About New Game+
Unlocking and Starting New Game+
How do I unlock New Game+? To start a playthrough with New Game Plus, you must have completed Act 3. Once you have finished the story for the first time, you can then start a second run with NG+.
How do I start a run with NG+? For this, you need to load your save file with which you completed the story. Then go to an expedition flag of your choice and select “New Game+” at the end of the list.

What is Transferred to New Game+ and What is Not?
Things you carry over to the new playthrough:
- Character progression including level, attributes, and skill points
- all party members are available once the prologue is completed (except Esquie)
- all weapons, Pictos, and colors from your inventory will be transferred from the old run to the new run
- all Chroma elixirs and Lumina upgrades
- all unlocked outfits and hairstyles
- all unlocked gradient attacks
Things that will not carry over:
- progress in side quests
- found Lost Gestrals
- the ability Paint Break
- all relationship levels, without affecting already received gradient attacks
- Esquie’s abilities
- all quest items
- all music tracks
- collected journal entries
- fast travel from a flag to the continent must be unlocked again
Changes in New Game+ Compared to the First Run
At its core, you play the same game in New Game+, but with some adjustments, especially in difficulty, that you should note:
- Enemies are much tougher, have significantly more health, and deal powerful damage.
- Pictos and weapons that you can obtain from enemies, traders, and the environment will be replaced with higher-level variants.
- Chroma catalysts will also be replaced with higher-level variants. This way, you can obtain Grandiose Chroma catalysts earlier in the game (weapon upgrades up to level 32) and can exclusively get Perfect Chroma catalysts in NG+ (upgrades up to max level 33).
- You will receive significantly more Chroma from the environment.
- You can further enhance your colors and Chroma elixirs.
- You can buy baguette weapons for 3 festival tokens in Lumière – you can find them in the bakery.
What You Should Note Before Your NG+
Since the progress of your characters is mostly carried over to the new run, it makes sense to prepare good builds and level your various characters, weapons, and Pictos to a comfortable level for you before embarking on a significantly tougher playthrough. Otherwise, you run the risk of starting the run and encountering problems.
Therefore, it is best not to underestimate the increased difficulty. You should also distribute your already received attribute points as efficiently as possible. How to do this best is explained here: Clair Obscur Expedition 33: Attributes in the Guide – How to Best Distribute Your Points
In addition to a deep story, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also features various endings. Furthermore, the story is not always easy to follow and often leaves players with questions.
