On October 6, the new Season Pass was released in League of Legends. It came alongside the start of the 2022 World Championship and offers various rewards. However, these rewards and the way to achieve them are currently being criticized by players. Now, Riot Games has responded.
What kind of pass is this? The new pass is available in three versions:
A Free2Play variant with limited rewards.
For 1,650 RP (about 13 Euros), you can get the complete World Championship Pass. It unlocks all rewards and directly grants 200 tokens and 4 World Championship balls 2022.
For 2,650 RP, you receive the World Championship Pass package. This includes not only the World Championship Pass but also the new skin “Soul Blossom Master Yi” (cover image) and the corresponding border along with the border icon.
What is the issue? To progress in the pass, you need to earn event experience. This is obtained by completing missions. Some are only available once, while others can be repeated, such as through daily victories.
However, at first glance, the pass seems too “grindy” for many players. There is too little XP from the missions (only 5,850) to reach the final rewards. Therefore, you would need to earn the rewards for the first two wins for 30 days (via reddit). One player even converts their playtime into real money:
You have to pay 15 dollars for the pass. Then you need to grind two hours a day for 30 days to get a prestige skin. Assuming you earn the minimum wage of 10 dollars per hour, that comes to 615 dollars for one pass. Is it worth it?
Riot explains that not all missions are visible yet
What do the developers say about this? In the first step, Riot employee Daniel ‘Rovient’ Leaveron reddit stated that there will be a total of 10,000 XP from the missions. However, some missions will only be unlocked later during the event. This would reduce the grind with daily games.
He further explains:
There are more than 160 champs, and most people only play a maximum of four or five. We allow players to choose what they want to do with the tokens they earn. It’s not a scam; it’s a business. You get all the items from the Reward Track, which are worth much more than 1,650 RP alone.
However, Rovient also confirms that, of course, not all rewards can be earned with the World Championship tokens in this event. This has also been the case with all previous events of this kind.
Do all players view the World Championship Pass negatively? No, some players emphasize that the pass is being dramatized. It would last longer than regular passes and also offers 100 more tokens for players who do not invest money. While this is the case with every World Championship pass, it actually makes it superior to the regular passes of the year.

Today, on October 11, the Spotlight Hour with Alolan Marowak starts in Pokémon GO. For many trainers, it is a highlight in October, as the mini-event is really worth it. We summarize here why you should participate.
What kind of event is this? Every Tuesday evening, there is a Spotlight Hour event in Pokémon GO. During this time, a specific Pokémon is the focus and spawns very frequently for 60 minutes. Niantic usually announces at the beginning of the month which Pokémon will be featured in the Spotlight Hours of that month.
These events are accompanied by a bonus. This time, the Pokémon Alolan Marowak is in focus and brings a bonus that gives you double stardust. We will show you in the overview what makes this event so great.
Spotlight Hour on October 11 – Start, Bonuses, Shiny

Why is the Spotlight Hour so good this time? In the last Spotlight Hours, there were often Pokémon that weren’t really worth it. They were not useful as attackers in PvP or PvE. Alolan Marowak finally changes that. Because its evolution Gengar is a strong attacker. With a moveset of Shadow Claw or Hex along with Shadow Ball, it is really strong and is one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
It will be useful in raids and also in trainer battles.
Additionally, there are many XL candies that you can secure for the event. From trainer level 31, you will guaranteed receive one XL candy per catch of an evolution.
Moreover, there are the free evolutions to consider. If you trade Alolan Marowak with a friend, you can evolve the traded Alolan Marowak into Gengar for free. On October 25, there will be a Spotlight Hour during which you will receive double experience points for evolving Pokémon. This complements each other nicely.
It is also important to note the stardust. If you additionally use a star piece, you will receive 900 stardust per catch.

A new studio called Vela Games, consisting of former Riot, Blizzard, and EA employees, is introducing a new MOBA: Evercore Heroes. In this competitive PvE game, the gameplay of a MOBA is mixed with MMO raids. MeinMMO editor Leya Jankowski was able to see gameplay and finds that it looks really good.
I love MOBAs and have spent more time in League of Legends than I would like to admit. That’s also the most known and successful MOBA. In addition, SMITE with its console focus and Dota 2 have also established themselves.
There have been attempts from other studios to nibble at a piece of the MOBA pie, but there have not been any resounding successes:

I attended a presentation for MeinMMO where the studio introduced itself and their new game “Evercore Heroes”. We were shown the alpha gameplay. The studio and gameplay convinced me to the extent that I see enormous potential here.
A MOBA mixed with PvE raids – Here’s what a round in Evercore Heroes looks like
The basics of a “normal” MOBA are present:
You form a team consisting of four characters, with the classic roles: Damage, Support, and Tank.
Various heroes are available to you, each with different abilities.
The characters have four abilities that you can level up during the match.
You will, of course, need to decide on a team composition before the round and argue over your favorite characters.
Since the gameplay shown only revealed players typing wildly in the chat when they want to play, I probed deeper here. If you have ever played a MOBA, you know how much conflict potential there is before the match.

Since this is a pre-alpha build, we haven’t implemented all our features yet. In the future, we will definitely expand our matchmaking functions with role preferences. We also look forward to adding more ways to effectively assemble teams that go beyond mere role selection. One example would be allowing players to choose whether they want to be a ‘Shot-Caller’ or a ‘Team Player’.

The special thing about Evercore Heroes is that you do not compete directly against other players. So you have no PvP contact. You compete against four other teams playing the same map as you. The goal is to complete the PvE challenges as quickly as possible. This determines the winner.
In summary, a round consists of:
You defeat monsters to level up and earn gold and crystals. Crystals are items to become stronger
You complete tasks to charge your Evercore and thus enter the boss domain
You defeat a typical MMO raid boss that has different phases to win the round
During the round, you fight monsters from which you receive rewards for the entire team
You can keep an eye on what the other three teams are doing throughout the round and how they are currently positioned. This gives you the opportunity to respond and adjust your strategy.
There are opportunities to interact with the other teams, even though you are not engaging in direct fights against each other. You collect small energy crystals, and when a certain number is reached, the boss sends out energy waves that bring monsters onto the maps.
You also want to complete the various objectives and tasks faster with your team, as only the first team receives the reward. So you are fighting in real-time for the objectives.
They want to destroy your Evercore base. If your base is destroyed, you are out of the round.
The boss appears for all teams at the same time, and all teams that are still left by then can fight against him. The goal is to defeat the boss as quickly as possible.
Characters can be improved beyond individual rounds
Another feature of Evercore Heroes is that you can improve your heroes long-term. As you play the characters, you can unlock unique talents.
This allows you to come up with a strategy and a build for your characters that can influence your round.
I can imagine it being more enjoyable to play with a fixed group that is in sync and can also adjust talents to match.
Talents can influence your stats or even create quests for your character during a match. They can also adjust and modify the abilities of the characters.
But classically for a MOBA, you can also adjust your characters during the round. There is a shop with crystals that influence your build. These crystals can be exchanged with other players but can also be purchased with gold.

PvE environment should offer variety
A MOBA like League of Legends is of course exciting because you face others in direct combat. Anyone who has ever had a 1v1 match for everything knows the intense adrenaline rush. It brings excitement and variety again and again.
A game that relies on a pure PvE environment must offer variety to remain exciting. Vela Games promises varied maps with different biomes.
The biomes are created by the different regions that the fantasy sci-fi world should offer. With the biomes, there should also be corresponding variation in the monsters.
There are also different seasons planned, which will introduce new monsters or change the gameplay. Of course, there should also be new heroes.
We only saw one map in the presentation. Therefore, it is difficult to assess how varied it will ultimately be.
I have high hopes for Evercore Heroes, thanks to the expertise behind it
I am aware that my initial judgment of the MOBA is quite positive, even though I have not played Evercore Heroes yet. I have only seen a gameplay presentation and have to trust what was shown and told to me.
The first signals, however, have potential:
The gameplay feels well thought out
The already presented heroes offer a lot of variety and seem to have something for everyone
For a pre-alpha build, the gameplay looked surprisingly fluid and visually appealing
The minds behind the game have tons of experience with MOBAs, multiplayer in general, and MMOs
At the beginning of the presentation, some team members were introduced to us.
Travis George, whom I have already quoted here, was the lead designer and producer of League of Legends for several years, around Season 5. He has a total of 20 years of experience in the industry.
Co-founder Brian Kaiser also has been in game development for 20 years, having worked at Sony, Activision, and EA.
Additionally, there are several more minds from Riot and Blizzard involved.
Names are of course not everything. My positive impression mainly comes from the gameplay I was able to see. I thought immediately: I want to play this now!
I am really excited to be part of a MOBA from the very beginning again. I believe I am not alone in this.
I see in Evercore Heroes a MOBA with potential that can compete with LoL. I don’t mean to say that it will immediately surpass LoL. The games take very different paths regarding the PvP and PvE components.
However, it certainly has the potential to take a good chunk of the MOBA pie and attract people who generally like League of Legends – like me.

On YouTube, one of the most well-known Guardians, “Aztecross”, has finally sat down and spoken clearly about the current state of Destiny 2. It’s not just about the lack of transparency, obfuscation, and broken exotics, but also about Bungie’s poor decisions.
Who is Aztecross? The Destiny YouTuber Aztecross is a veteran of the loot shooter. He has accompanied Destiny 1 and 2 for several years and thus knows many issues and problems that Bungie has already struggled with.

The Guardians have not been left in the dark. However, for some time now, the tide has turned. According to Aztecross, the team is withholding a lot of information. Issues in the game are hardly mentioned or only in passing, which, however, have a significant impact on the players.
This includes, for example, the new exotics from Season 18. Three out of five specimens were deactivated. One of them was returned in such a way that no Titan would ever touch it again, and that was only because Bungie had to nerf it to the ground. Bungie gives the impression that they prioritize the wrong issues, fixing things that are fun, and exotics are preferred to be nerfed to the ground instead of being repaired to useful status.
In the case of broken exotics, no new information or updates are communicated to the community. They are kept in the dark, even though they need answers.
Nerfs are sold as buffs: When changes are eventually announced, they are presented in a way that sounds good on paper, but in practice turn out to be nerfs. Aztecross cites the Exotic scout rifle “Tale of a Dead Man” as an example.
A western rifle that is now gathering dust in the vault
The rifle was a very solid choice in PvP for players who could handle it. On August 11, however, Bungie took a closer look at the rifle, as the developers stated: “[…] the fantasy of the ‘cowboy rifle from the hip’ did not come across as well as we had hoped. Therefore, we overhauled it to lean more towards hip-fire rapid-fire.”
What sounds good at first quickly reveals itself in the game as a significant nerf. When Bungie was done with the rifle, most Guardians couldn’t do anything with it anymore and put it straight into the vault.
Aztecross does not understand why Bungie markets changes this way and thus causes much dissatisfaction in the community. Bad news is often received bitterly, but getting the community excited about a positive change that turns out to be a nerf is even more bitter.
The studio has been bought by the large console corporation from Japan and is now working under their auspices. The focus at Bungie seems to be on attracting many new players. With skill-based matchmaking and the simultaneous cooperation with Epic Games, more new lights should be able to find their footing in the Destiny universe, both in PvE and PvP.
The core players are not planned for this type of “project” and thus these players are also suffering. Modes are adjusted in favor of casual players so that they have it easier to settle in and have fun. However, Aztecross believes this may become detrimental to Bungie sooner or later.
This downfall occurred at the release of Destiny 2 when all players rebelled against Bungie. There was a lack of communication, the game was completely polished for casuals, and PvP resembled chaos.
Only after the Destiny 2 community gradually disappeared did Bungie realize what they should have done. Now it remains to be seen whether Bungie will rebuild closer contact with the community or keep keeping their distance.

In League of Legends, the situation for the USA at the LoL Worlds 2022 looks bleak: total disgrace looms in their own country. Half of the group matches have already been played, and the North American teams have not won any of their 9 games. LoL expert Martin “Rekkles” Larsson delivers a scathing verdict on North America’s nominal top team, Cloud9.
Who is playing for North America at Worlds? North America is represented by 3 teams at Worlds:
The nominally strongest team is Cloud9: with the talented Berserker in the bot lane, the former pentakill master Zven as a substitute support, and the experienced Jensen in the mid lane.
100 Thieves have a strong, German mid laner in Abbedagge and a master in the top lane in South Korean Ssumday.
Evil Geniuses were the positive surprise of last year in US LoL. They relied on young North Americans instead of expensive imports. EG has a strong core around mid laner jojopyun, jungler Inspired, and veteran Impact. Their bot laner Danny (18) is sitting out the Worlds.
In the preliminary round, the USA still had something to celebrate:

How are these teams doing? Truly catastrophic. After Evil Geniuses performed well in the preliminary round, there have only been losses in the group phase: every single game has been lost.
Even against one of the supposedly weakest teams in the main round, “CTBC Flying Oyster” from Taiwan, 100 Thieves suffered a defeat.
Against co-favorites to win Worlds 2022, such as EDward Gaming (15-4 in 28 minutes) or T1 (18-3 in 25 minutes), the US team Cloud9 was utterly demolished.

What is the reaction of US fans? There is considerable despair and a certain gallows humor. On reddit it says: Every time fans talked themselves up before Worlds, stating that they are very close to Asia and have Europe in the bag, only to fail like this.

“However, the display of this mechanical skill must not disrupt the Rocket League experience for new or casual players. The intentional de-ranking of an account or creating a “Smurf” account with a lower rank to compete against new or less experienced players in an online playlist violates the terms of use and the code of conduct.”
