In 1962, Thor debuted as a superhero in the comic Journey into Mystery No. 83. The God of Thunder has since become one of the most well-known heroes in the Marvel Universe and has fought many battles. Despite being one of the most powerful Avengers, he has lost fights before.

1. Beta Ray Bill – The Worthy Competitor
- Defeated Thor in the comic Thor No. 337 (1983)
In 1983, Marvel gave the God of Thunder Thor a true rival: Beta Ray Bill. The alien hails from the planet Korbin and was chosen to protect his home from the demon Surtur. Unfortunately, even a brutal operation that made him a cyborg did not help him to defeat the powerful foe.
In search of a new home, Beta Ray Bill came near Earth and was initially confronted by Thor. However, the battle did not go well for the Avenger. This was mainly because Beta Ray Bill was able to grab Mjölnir, as he was worthy.
Afterwards, Odin summoned the two of them. They were to fight each other for Mjölnir. Thor lost again in this confrontation, but Beta Ray Bill refused to defeat the God. As a reward from Odin, there was a new weapon for the alien: Stormbreaker. A version of this weapon can be seen in the movie Avengers: Infinity War.
