Mangog is a special being in the Marvel universe. It is made of the hatred of billions of beings who were destroyed by Thor’s father Odin in the past. Therefore, the physical manifestation of this hatred is not particularly fond of Asgard.
In The Mighty Thor #701, a variant of Thor (Volstagg) fights against Mangog, but it does not go well for the God of Thunder. His fighting style represents his fundamental hatred, and he really beats Thor to a pulp. Even with his hammer and his lightning bolts, he cannot inflict any damage on the being. Mangog also encounters the villain Malekith in this issue and makes it clear that his wrath is aimed only at gods. He wants to punish the gods who punished his people long ago.
