Currently, there is a major promotional campaign for GTA 6 running on the PS5. This is remarkable because even the in-house games do not receive such attention.
GTA 6 is currently the most anticipated title of the year and you can now also pre-order the game. However, it is noteworthy how Sony is currently building a large marketing campaign around the game.
Because if it were up to Sony, GTA 6 could also be an exclusive title for the PS5. Sony is promoting the game as much as hardly any other title. Not even in-house titles, such as “God of War: Laufrey,” receive such great attention.
GTA 6 currently seems like an exclusive PS5 game from Sony
What exactly is Sony doing? The company behind PlayStation has launched a large marketing campaign to aggressively promote GTA 6 on its own platform. This is particularly noticeable because even its own first-party games have not received such attention. This is reported by the English-language magazine Polygon:
- In early May, Sony sent an email campaign to PS4 users, urging them to buy a PlayStation 5 ahead of the planned release of “Grand Theft Auto 6” in November.
- Additionally, Sony adjusted the PlayStation app icon to match the colors and branding of “GTA 6.” Later, PS5 owners were greeted by a full-screen animation of the GTA 6 logo when logging into their consoles. In the PlayStation Store, there is an interactive game in the style of “Bonnie and Clyde”: every clickable icon on the store page leads to information about the game.
- Furthermore, Sony has been emphasizing for quite some time how well GTA 6 runs on a PS5: according to Sony, the game features PlayStation-specific capabilities such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D audio, and faster load times on the PS5.
Why is this so special? Even in-house titles that are exclusively released on the PS5 usually do not get such a stage from Sony, at most a brief highlight during or after a “State of Play.”
Those who now look at Sony’s large-scale marketing campaign might think that GTA 6 is an exclusive PS5 title or at least on par with other first-party titles from Sony. Specifically, games like “The Last of Us” or “God of War.”
Shortly before the start of pre-orders, Rockstar is bringing countless new details about GTA 6. With a single sentence, the developer now shatters the dreams of many multiplayer fans: Sony has just answered the question of whether GTA 6 will launch with multiplayer
