There is currently a three-story house for sale on the internet, which would cost you around €10,200. However, there is a big catch, even though the house is filled with all sorts of mangas.
What kind of house is it? On Lifull Homes, interested parties can currently acquire a three-story building located in the city of Sakata in Japan. According to the listing, the building is 55 years old, meaning it was built in 1971.
The special thing: The three-story building is filled with shelves of mangas. According to some users on X, it reportedly was the Sakata Mana Library, a library for mangas.
After its closure, these volumes were not removed from the shelves, which means interested buyers would acquire not only the building but also the mangas. There could be some treasures among them.
Apart from the physical condition that comes with age, there could be some treasures among these mangas. However, it is questionable whether the purchase is worthwhile, even if you would only have to spend around €10,200 for the nearly 300 m² property.
Building houses treasures of mangas, but also burdens
What is it like for Germans to buy a house in Japan? According to akiyajapan.com and various other sites, it is allowed for foreigners to acquire property in the Japanese real estate market. There are no restrictions. That means you don’t even need to hold Japanese citizenship.
However, this comes with restrictions regarding financing, registration, or reporting obligations. Property management itself should not be neglected when purchasing a house, as the houses could deteriorate quickly.
Additional challenges may arise with the building that could ultimately make the purchase even more expensive:
- If the building needs to be completely demolished, costs would likely rise. The three-story commercial building with an area of 292 m² would involve higher demolition costs than the purchase price.
- Since the building dates from 1971, the likelihood is extremely high that health-hazardous asbestos was used.
