The Anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 finally has a release date. To the delight of many: We don’t have to wait long! The accompanying teaser for the series shows, however, that the new episodes will be quite intense… and a candidate V from Cyberpunk 2077 could be more similar than expected.
When does the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners come out? Along with a new teaser, Netflix has now revealed the start of the second season: On October 20, 2026, fans can finally dive back into Night City and watch a new crew as the city and the world from the Cyberpunk universe will consume, chew, and spit them out.
With the release date, fans can also get a better insight into what to expect in 2 months based on the teaser. And fans of the game will notice: Yes, we will get to cry again, but… there is a significant parallel to our V from Cyberpunk 2077.
A character who could urgently use V’s advice
Which character is being referred to? The nomad and netrunner D is one of the 4 protagonists from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, but has a similar fate to V from Cyberpunk 2077.
In the new teaser, you can see D slotted a chip into himself that, upon closer inspection, resembles a… “certain other chip” with a personality engram: an engram biochip, a prototype of the megacorp Arasaka.
That this is actually an engram biochip like the Relic from Cyberpunk 2077 can be determined based on various clues from the teaser:
- The biochip from the teaser looks very similar to the one from the game. They share exactly the same silhouette, color, and other details, suggesting they might have a similar, if not the same, function.
- D hesitates before inserting it and appears visibly stressed. Such a prototype is unexplored and unpredictable.
- D looks surprised often during the teaser, as if he has done things he can barely remember. Furthermore, he behaves unusually based on the confused reactions of others.
- In a short sequence, it appears as if D’s face is breaking apart as if something or someone else is trying to break free under his skin.
- At the very end of the teaser, when D and Roman are standing in front of a burning body, the smaller one asks the netrunner: “Are you a weapon? A weapon made of people?”
All of this together suggests that D—just like V—has fused with the personality of an engram biochip. Also—and take this with a grain of salt—the names of both characters consist of only one letter, and they even rhyme when pronounced.

What else is to be seen? In the trailer, it is shown that both cyberpsychosis and Arasaka will play a role again. MaxTac also makes a reappearance, as well as a riot (perhaps even in front of the Arasaka Tower?) and – as probably expected by everyone and their mothers – many suffering faces of our protagonists. Tears seem just as inevitable here as they were in the first season of Edgerunners.
