In Diablo 4 Season 14 has started, bringing plenty of new challenges. Some players are simply struggling with a lack of mobility.
Why is Diablo 4 getting deadlier? Diablo 4 now offers 12 torment levels, and especially the higher difficulty levels are intense. The higher the level, the more damage the enemies deal. This requires builds that can both inflict high damage and provide a strong defense.
With Season 14, rifts have also come to Sanctuary, which, especially in the Helltides, create an enormous density of monsters. Players report that they are quickly reaching their limits even on low difficulty levels and are dying en masse – and that’s exactly why the community is celebrating the content.
However, the so-called “On Death” effects from monsters are being criticized, under which a certain type of build suffers particularly.
The Season of “The Floor is Lava”
Which builds suffer the most? This particularly affects players with slower builds. This means specifically: Those who need to stand still to execute attacks often take lethal damage from monsters directly after their demise – such as from explosions or poison puddles. Builds that hardly use mobility skills and simply can’t dodge these effects quickly enough are also affected, such as some Sorceresses.
On Reddit, players discuss that these effects are pushing immobile play styles to their limits. User burnedsmores writes that the biggest challenge right now is building a character with which one can channel for more than half a second without collapsing immediately.
And The-Katawampus suggests that it’s best to assume that from torment level 3 onwards, every one of these effects is deadly. One should literally never stand still. For xXSoulReapperXx, it’s already the season of “The Floor is Lava”, while for others, it feels more like a “Running in Circles” simulator.
But even mobile builds, like those of the agile Hunters, are not automatically safe. Players point out that slowdowns and freeze effects hinder them from dodging the effects.
In another Reddit post, a player critiques that the new seasonal mechanic almost forces one to stand still. And in combination with the deadly On-Death effects of the monsters, this only adds to the frustration.
Many users suspect that the effects have been worsened with Season 14. Whether Blizzard will address this remains to be seen.
Aside from the deadly attacks, many players are particularly annoyed by the visual readability on the screen. The constant overlay of countless effects on the ground is a recurring topic in the community. Blizzard had previously improved this issue, but with the Warlock, the problem has returned.
Have you chosen a mobile build in Season 14, or are you also suffering from the “The Floor is Lava” principle? How do you perceive the visual clarity in battles? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments!
