At the Summer Game Fest 2026, the Gacha game Wuthering Waves announced a collaboration with the Netflix-series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which has caused players to rush the servers of the game on Steam.
What kind of collaboration is this? The new update brings Lucy and Rebecca, two of the most popular Edgerunner characters, as 5-star resonators into the game. One of the characters is completely free. For the other, you either have to farm in-game currency or, as is common in a Gacha game, invest real money, with no guarantee of actually pulling the character.
The entire event takes place on the new map Somnoire – Night City, which is time-limited. It is an alternate reality shaped from the memories of the traumatized Lucy. It resembles the cybernetic and neon-lit metropolis from the series and the game Cyberpunk 2077.
There is even a boss fight with a character from the series, which we do not want to spoil.

How is the update received? Wuthering Waves landed on Steam a year after its initial release, but thanks to SteamDB, we know at least that it has reached an all-time high of players since its release there.
On June 8, 2026, almost 50,000 players gathered simultaneously in the game within 24 hours. Such a large number of gamers had never gathered before for this title. This even impressed the Associate Game Director of Cyberpunk 2077 on X:
In the past, we have done plenty of collaborations, both small and large, but I have never experienced such an overwhelming response from the community. I am amazed by the depth and quality of the cosplays, artworks, and memes.
Why is it so well received? The story feels like an unofficial 11th episode of the series that never existed, at least according to the players on Reddit. The narrative showcases the experiences following the big finale on Netflix.
Lucy’s condition has worsened due to the loss of David, and the psychological effects lead to insomnia. She has now built a stable existence on the moon.
Rebecca surprisingly receives a lot of character depth. You learn about her gaming passion, her love for fluffy animals, and see how she processes the loss of her brother. Quest 3 would also offer a heartwarming dynamic between the two characters.
