Destiny 2 will not receive any new content anymore. If the loot shooter is starting to lose its fun for you, check out these 7 games.
What is this list about: Destiny 2 is coming to an end, as Bungie has released the last update for the loot shooter. This means that there may come a point where the game becomes repetitive, and you need to look for alternatives. We have listed the most well-known alternatives here.
However, keep in mind that there is no game that can replace Destiny 1:1. Some do not have MMO features like raids, while others rely on 3rd-person perspectives or a completely different setting and simply have a different gunplay. Here, we can only present games that offer a part of Destiny’s gameplay. You will then have to see which of these meets your expectations best.
Witchfire shows how Destiny would be as a medieval soulslike with witches
Witchfire combines the gunplay of Destiny with a dark fantasy setting and makes you the hunter of a powerful witch.
Platforms: Steam | Genre: Extraction x Soulslike | Mode: Singleplayer | Perspective: First-Person
This is what it shares with Destiny: strong FPS gunplay, supernatural abilities, movement, grind
Why is this an alternative to Destiny? Witchfire is not a loot shooter with MMO elements like Destiny, but rather an extraction shooter as a singleplayer. At first, this might sound like something that has nothing to do with Destiny, but there is a reason you find Witchfire on this list: the gunplay and the movement.
The way you move with the weapons, use your abilities, how the guns (especially the handguns) feel and affect enemies – you can feel the strong inspiration from Destiny.
You need to know this about the game: In Witchfire, you are a witch hunter who takes on a powerful witch and her bodyguards with ancient firearms and various spells. For example, you grab a revolver or a repeating rifle and take out some witch disciples.
However, since it is not a loot shooter, you will not be regularly blessed with brightly glowing loot. Instead, you get the so-called Witchfire for kills, which you must extract to unlock permanent improvements. The principle of Witchfire is inspired by the progression system of the soulslike genre. The resource cannot be stored or spent during an ongoing raid, so you must enter the battle with full pockets. Should you die and fail to recover your remains on the next attempt, all your Witchfire is lost.
If you want to know more about Witchfire, I recently introduced the shooter on MeinMMO in more detail, as the game gave me the impression that it could appeal to many fans of ARC Raiders. Here you can find the article: A shooter on Steam is perfect for players who don’t want PvP in ARC Raiders
