Why is this an alternative to Destiny? Outriders is a classic loot shooter that does many things right and thus is a valid option for Destiny fans despite its third-person perspective. You can choose from four different classes, all of which bring different abilities and playstyles.
What’s interesting about the classes is that each one is capable of dealing enough damage to win a fight – it just depends on your build. This is where Outriders excels with solid build variety. And the loot yield is impressive: you will constantly be rewarded with glittering treasures and can find heaps of interesting weapons.
What you need to know about the game: Outriders is not a live-service game; instead, it focuses on a story campaign, a series of side missions, and a short endgame. Thus, Outriders has not been supplied with new content over the years. You can only invest a limited number of hours of playtime. After about 60 hours, you will have completed everything in the main game once. The paid DLC adds about 24 more hours.
Of course, your playtime doesn’t automatically end when you’ve seen everything once. You can replay the story, side missions, etc., with other classes or grind the endgame – even though that is also quite reduced and can’t keep you entertained for hundreds of hours.
How much time you spend in Outriders ultimately depends on you. I’ve played through it multiple times with different classes and have logged about 200 hours. However, you should be aware that the game has had only a few hundred players in recent months, and you’ll find correspondingly few fellow players. Most have turned away from Outriders years ago.
