For a few years now, we have known that Amazon and Games Workshop are producing a series on Warhammer 40,000 starring Henry Cavill. Now the creators have finally given a sign of life and have a new announcement to share.
Recently, it has been so quiet about the Amazon series on Warhammer 40,000 that there were fears whether it is even still being made. After all, Henry Cavill already confirmed his role in the series in 2022 as well as his position in the production.
Now the CEO of Games Workshop, Kevin Rountree, has talked about the series in the latest financial report (available at investor-games-workshop.com). It states: “Vertigo and Henry Cavill remain as involved as they have been for some time.”
This means specifically: The series is still being produced, only there is no new milestone to report. You can find everything we know so far in our overview of the Amazon Warhammer series.
In the same paragraph, however, Rountree also mentions that Amazon has hired United Artists and director Mike Flanagan. Whether they are working for the series or for another project is not yet known, but the paragraph suggests a collaboration. Flanagan himself has several successes to his credit.
The new director for the Warhammer universe knows a lot about horror
Many of you may know Flanagan primarily from various horror films and series. For example, he produced the Netflix series “The Haunting of Hill House”, which was very well received in 2022 and adapted the works of Edgar Allan Poe, and in 2025, he released a horror hit, “The Haunting Of Hill House”, that even Tarantino enjoyed, even though he can’t stand streaming.
His latest work is likely the screenplay for the DC film Clayface, which is being filmed since 2024 and comes to German cinemas on October 22, 2026. In any case, Flanagan is a director with a lot of experience in horror.
Whether this means that his Warhammer project at Amazon also has to do with horror remains to be seen, but it would be possible, after all, there are:
- with Nurgle and his Death Guard good templates for body horror
- thanks to the Tyranids and Orks perfect splatter models
- and with Slaanesh, the Drukhari, or even the Inquisition possibilities for psycho-horror and thrillers.
According to the financial report, Flanagan will soon “turn to the script,” so the production is becoming more concrete. Games Workshop generally has additional animated series in production and, of course, video games.
