If you don’t enjoy leveling in World of Warcraft, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Because soon it will go much faster.
Update, 06/05/2026, 06:00 AM: The article originally stated that the buff is active account-wide. Blizzard has since corrected its statement, and we have updated the article as well.
Leveling in World of Warcraft has always been a contentious issue. While Classic fans see leveling as a primary game content that should take as long as possible, in modern WoW, leveling is often just a necessity to reach the endgame activities. The faster this is completed, the better.
However, leveling has become a bit more strenuous in Midnight and can take several evenings if you just want to try out another class in the endgame.
To this end, there is a buff in Patch 12.0.7 that drastically speeds up leveling. The buff itself is not new, but it has been further improved.
6 weeks with 30% more XP
What kind of buff is this? Essentially, it involves two buffs that can be obtained during the “Turbulent Timeways” event. If you complete a Timewalking dungeon during the event, your character receives the effect “Knowledge of Timeways.” This buff increases the experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests by 5%.
This effect is stackable multiple times, and the duration also increases. Once you have 4 stacks, the buff transforms into “Mastery of Timeways,” which in turn increases the experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests by a whopping 30%.
What has changed about the buff? The buff has not changed at its core. Blizzard initially stated that it was active account-wide but later retracted that statement.
However, be aware that you need to refresh the buff regularly before it expires. Otherwise, you will have to collect some stacks again.
When is the event happening? Although Patch 12.0.7 is set to release in mid-June, the “Turbulent Timeways” event will not start until two weeks later, on July 1, 2026. From then on, it will be possible to get the powerful “Mastery of Timeways” buff. The event ends on August 12 – and then the next big content update is likely to be on the horizon.
If you don’t want to wait until the start of the Turbulent Timeways, you can already get a head start with the release of Patch 12.0.7. Because there, the developers of WoW are already massively increasing the experience points you receive for certain quests.
