A fish is the latest secret weapon in World of Warcraft. This makes the endgame area much easier to handle.
In Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek of World of Warcraft, most of the action takes place on the winding island and the underground vault of Atal’Utek. However, playing in this vault can be quite exhausting when you’re traveling alone. Many of the foes here are elite opponents and require a bit of attention to defeat unscathed. Unless you’re a rogue, druid, or hunter with stealth, things can quickly become uncomfortable.
But there’s a trick for all classes, namely a fish called the “Sulfurous Sludgefish”.
Fish makes you practically invisible, quests a piece of cake
What does the fish do? When used, the fish grants you the buff “Sludge Coating” for 5 minutes. This reduces the range at which enemies in the vault of Atal’Utek notice you – in other words, the aggro range. The effect is massive. With this fish, you can walk past enemies within a few meters without being discovered. As long as you don’t actually touch the foe, you can essentially walk past all enemies.
Where can you find the fish? The “Sulfurous Sludgefish” can be fished anywhere on the winding island, most reliably in the swarm “Bubbling Beryl”. However, it may take a while to build up a small supply. If you don’t feel like fishing, you should stock up on fish at the auction house instead.
What’s the benefit? If you enjoy exploring the vault of Atal’Utek but don’t want to engage in many fights or large groups, you can comfortably complete quests or patrol missions alone with the fish. Many of the missions don’t even require fighting. Often you just need to bury the bones of a spirit or burn the bodies of fallen warriors. Gathering treasure chests throughout the vault is also much easier with the fish if you want to collect the coins in the area.
Cortyn says: When I noticed the effect of the fish for the first time, I immediately bought 200 pieces of it at the auction house – after all, they were just 2 gold and 30 silver coins there, not 500 gold coins. That was definitely well-invested gold for me, which has already saved me from many frustrating battles. If you plan to do a bit of soloing in the vault of Atal’Utek, you should stock up on the fish.
After all, many of the bugs that ruined the launch of Patch 12.1 have now been fixed.
